Can anyone recommend a good shredder that will last?

I just bought one for my mother that others have said they liked.

Mine usually last about 5 years. I remember to oil the device, which helps to keep it alive longer.

A fellow notary friend of mine just got a cross-cut shredder that you lay the documents in. WoW! is that nice. You do not have to stand and feed all the docs in. You simply lay a stack of about 250 sheets in the device, hit start and go do your thing. It shreds any size paper, not just sheets. My next one will be like that, except my commercial shredder will probably last longer than me.

Fellowes is an excellent brand. The one I bought 9-10 years ago is still functioning as if new; it's the PS70-2. Not sure if they still make that one as everything seems to link back to the PS70.

My newest acquisition of under a year is the 79Ci. I'm certain that it'll last just as long as the PS70-2.

Take a peek at the reviews of all the different brands you're contemplating. Best of luck in scoring a great machine.

I have a Fellowes DM12C (12 page capacity). I've

had it about 3 years & it's been problem free for all the shredding I do. I think I got it at Costco.

I got the Swingline Stack-and-Shred 60-Sheet Shredder about a month ago & love it. I bought the 80 sheet capacity on Amazon, just lay paper in it & close the lid. Only draw back is the tray is letter size only. Manual feed envelopes & legal just like with regular shredder. Not as loud as the Fellows or the Ativa I have. It does have a temp sensor & light will come on and shut down when it gets hot, then it resumes.

Take a look at the one Brenda mentioned - I have the same one, and it does the job you need it to do. What you want is a cross-cut shredder - the cheaper ones cut in strips, which are easier to reconstruct if you have the time and patience.

Of course, the ultimate "shredder" would be a flamethrower, but I don't know that those are available in Amazon...

Re: Document shredders, I have a service it comes to my door

I pay 30.00 every 2 months for it. They drive up and dump and shred while I stand there and talk to them. I have a locking garbage can just like the hospitals and court house's and other business's.......... justme

That's $180/yr - you can buy a decent shredder for less than half of that, and you're not piling up stuff waiting to be shredded.

Re: In my area a machine is not cheaper then a service

For me it is cheaper to have a service. At my office depot on line it has a 12 sheet shredder low end they are 299.99 and $199.99 that is the cheapest ones on line . That is low end commercial 12 sheet shredder. My service is $180.00 a year, Just what I save in my time shredding not shredding 12 pages at a time 2 loan packages, unclogging the clogs, dumping a zillion pieces of paper then vacuuming up the mess it leaves, over heating and waiting for the machine to cool down, is well worth the price. I just walk out to my garage and slide in the all the pages into the slot on the top, I'm done, I will never go back to doing shredding my self. For me it is a big time saver and worth every penny. I also love not having to shop for another machine .........justme

drooling over that idea. I have so much home office files that need discarding, and don't do it because of the thought of shredding.

I think my area has a service that picks up as you need them. Pay as you go sort of deal.
