Don't Hate The Player......Hate The Game.
Company XYZ offered you $65.00 for a closing 75 miles away and now you're pissed off at those lowballers and comment in signing central that Company XYZ is scum and then you post in the forum that they had the nerve to offer you $65.00 for a closing and anyone who works for them is crazy, a scum of the earth lowballer, and of course does not deserve to be in this business for accepting their paltry sum. Then all your little friends chime in and chastise anyone who works for this bottom feeding company.
Maybe it is you who shouldn't be in this business because you haven't learned the art of negotiation. Just because Company XYZ offered you $65.00 for a closing does not mean other notaries are working for that same company for $65.00 per closing.

Agreed, Peg. And negotiation is an Art.

Here, here, and Amen, Peg! I've previously made some similar comments. One of my favorite companies, provider of perhaps more than one fourth of my work, is from one of those companies that "offers" $65. We just quickly agree to a higher fee. I've closed very few for $65, out of 1,000 total. Those $65 jobs jobs were close to home and had overnighted docs. I'll be happy to accept several per day, at $65, when close to home and using overnighted docs, and I don't care if other posters give be the dickens for it!

Anyone who closes loans for $65...........
Shame on you. Get a job at Home Depot or WalMart. You obviously are not intelligent enough to prove that your level of service is worth much more than minimun wage. Pitiful!!!!! Had a conversation Friday with a SS I have been doing business with since 2004 who pays me $140 for local jobs who said that he is astonished at the low fees most notaries agree to. He is paid $175 by title. Wake up people.

Re: Anyone who closes loans for $65...........
I'm all for encouraging people to charge what they're worth, but I felt your post was a bit harsh and not really fair. Jack indicated that he has rarely done signings for that amount and only when he wasn't printing docs and they were close. He's been on this board long enough for me to give him the benefit of the doubt, although I'd certainly like to see everyone charging more than that.
I suspect there may be other significant factors to be considered, as well. For one, the possibility that cost of living is very different. I've never been to Alabama or Maryland, but I've been to Georgia and DC. Cost of living between those two places is night and day. Can't say about other places, but I know it can make a big difference. (Plus, you have all the expense and additional training required to get a TPL.)
Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending $65 fees. I just felt your post was a bit over the top under the circumstances.

Well said loancloser. Those pathetic notaries should not even be in the business. I won't even go next door to my house for $65. And don't give me that BS about negotiating.

Bonehead math
<<I'll be happy to accept several per day, at $65, when close to home and using overnighted docs...>>
Yeah, me too.
'Cept how many "close to home" signings are you going to get? You'd be lucky to get several per year; several a day is a pipe dream. Notaries who use this $65 close-to-home argument always amuse me. It's a cop-out. If you used your house as the center point, then drew circles 1, 5, 10 miles out, how many houses would be in that area? How many are going to be re-fing? How many of those are going to be using the lender(s) your SSs uses? How many of those signings will your SS give you? How many will be overnight docs? The number of houses keeps getting smaller and smaller ... and smaller. How many of these close to home jobs have you done in your entire life for $65? If you had to pay the grocery bill with those, you'd be starving by now. If you want to low-ball, go ahead, Just don't come on NR with your nutty rationalizations and justifications. If you want to make an argument for $65 signings, you're going to have to come up with something better than that.

Right on Cheryl!
My car goes into Hypovolemic octane shock. With gas up to $4.06 in my area I begin to think twice about starting the car.
Unfortunately, some feel that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. If they haven’t had a call in a while they begin to feel a little something is better than a lot of nothing.
We have all heard these from other signers.
The problem is the routine leak in income becomes justifiable to you.
I like that my doctor is only a block away so charges me half price.
But then, we’re not professionals are we.

Me thinks Bear900 was being facetious, as in not meant to be taken literally. Or else he was referring to $65 notaries as not being professionals.

Re: Bonehead math
Sardonic with a twist of lime..
There are sellers of service and sellers of volume. Volume sellers are like Ponzi builders. Their business can only last when the next deal is directly behind them and I know I would want you to be signing MY personal loan!
I turned down a deal this evening for $85, and was nice to them. Why would I want to build volume with them??
They called back and met my standard price. The service? When I received the docs I was out the door in 10 minutes and at their doorstep in 15. That's service.
I could have reasoned: "5 minutes away, aww shucks, yu can have me for $85, ahuck, ahuck". Goofballs..
