Mortgage Docs
I am new at this and excited to get started. I've had a couple of phone calls, but couldn't follow through with those due to previous engagements. Today, I get an email from MortgageDocs, requesting availability to do a signing well over an hour away on Friday evening for $65.00 Is it just me, or are they crazy? I can't see doing the printing, document return, at least 2 1/2 hours drive time, plus the time to complete the signing for $65.00...please tell me this isn't standard rates!

Yes, they are CRAZY!!! $65 wouldn't even cover your gas cost.

Did you read that right Cheryl?
At least a 2 hour round trip drive, plus time at the table, printing, etc. for $100???? I wouldn't do it for less than $200

Re: I agree with rengel.
Heck no, not worth it. stiff neck and sore back from the drive alone.

That's why I charge a premium...
For me, those long drives are the norm. 2-3 loans in one day is a VERY long and busy day. (Keep in mind that I also do a few other things as well.)
An average Friday evening refi signing with 2.5 hours of driving... My absolute minimum would be $250 and it would go up from there depending and various factors, and could easily go as high as $300-$400 or more. More than likely it would be around $300-$350.
And, if they needed me to get it to a certain FedEx hub the next day to guarantee Monday delivery? I charge $75.00 for that service alone because it's a 90 mile round trip drive to the closest Saturday pickup.
Audible.com loves me.. I get to listen to a lot of books when I'm on the road.

Typo, sb $200, not a shilling less. But I've heard of notaries driving two hours each way, split signing between LA and SB for $300. I wouldn't have done it at all, but definitely would have charged double this. Husband and wife in different cities, had to be signed that day.

Yay!! A newbie who gets it!! Way to go! :>)
I'd never say this out loud, but in my head, I'd be telling them to go pound sand... As you have apparently already figured out, some work isn't worth having! (Plus, look them up under the Signing Central tab. You probably dodged a bullet...)
Best of luck to you! You don't have to work at a loss to get started!

I just got an email from Mortgage Docs for a signing a half hour away for Friday for $65. I responded to the email to take me off the $65 email and put me on the $120 or more emails.
Then I got a call about 15 minutes later asking if I could do it. I politely told the young lady how I responded to the email and it is in fact what I say I will do this for and ANY future signings minimum.
Plus we are expecting a major snow storm on Friday - good luck to you finding the $65 notary.
