NSA’s to also be licensed as Settlement Agents
Good morning;
Are any of your states requiring NSA’s to also be licensed as Settlement Agents?
Oklahoma legislature is purposing this in one of their bills.
I spent some time on the internet looking for the licensing process but can’t find any details.

Note the NNA has objected to it and asked that two
definitions be removed, thereby allowing notaries to continue to perform closings.
Why you ask? Because if this bill passes as it stands, it would require annual licensing AND 10 hours continuing education of the licensees - surpassing the "certification" offered by NNA.

I still think it's a great idea, do away with point & signer n/m

Not really - they will study to the test, pass and forget.
Back to point and sign.

Think of it as a step up from where we are. Once licensed,
we would be working in actual recognized "profession". And yeah, I'd take the testing and continuing ed classes no problem. I do this now, in my paralegal profession, which is also unlicensed as least here in IL. And I'm pushing for this profession to be licensed as well...for same reasons...legitimacy in the job market.
And it would weed out those that don't know what they're doing...the licensing would require them to be up on par with everyone else. And I believe it would eventually eliminate those point and sign nsa's.
Holding everyone to a higher standard nationally should be the goal of the NNA but they do things so backwards it really is unbelievable.
Just my .02 cents.

Maryland requires a title producer's license and I like it!
That's why I dont understand why some folks work for $75-$85 per signing......

Do you really think the SS's and TC's are going to pay more because you are now a Settlement Agent? I don't think so.
I am not a point and sign NSA and keeping my fees up is getting harder all the time. I just don't think we will get more pay for the extra education\requirements.
