Not negotiable
Short conversation at about 11:00 AM Saturday:
SS: We have a re-fi this afternoon we need covered, small package no fax backs yada yada we will pay you $50 non-negotiable.
Me: My fee is $500 non-negotiable
SS: That"s ridiculous
Me: So is $50. Make a reasonable offer and after I check you ratings on Notary Rotary I maybe able to help.
SS: Dial tone
Couldn't understand name of the company when they called. I maybe new but I am not stupid.

I love the way you think! and your negotiating technique. Awesome! Hope it catches on here! Did you program them into your contacts as DEADBEATS?

Perfect!! I love it!!
Also...
"Couldn't understand name of the company when they called"
When I get these, if I have the time I search the number so I know who it was. If I can't find it I call the number back..oopsy wrong number.. But then I know
Had one of those the other day - called the number back "the number you have reached has been disconnected" - wow am I glad I said NO!!!

You're ingenious. I'm putting your script in my journal. I can't wait to use it! I hope more will also employ it! It's over the top. KUDOS to you. Let's make change!

Kudos Mike. It seems I garner more information on Sundays from this forum, then any other day. Perhaps it's because all the pros are too busy 6 days a week. I know I am. By the time Monday rolls around, all this golden tongue wisdom is lost. Excellent threads today and yesterday from Brenda, Cheryl, Lisa and some others. Hope all newbies read over the weekends.

Mike, what a great response! Wish I could think that fast on my feet for a stellar comeback like that! Is it just the newbies that are called with these ridiculous rates or do the experienced notaries get them too? Just wondering...

Almost 10 years doing this and I still get the low offers. These schedulers are desperate and call everyone. I always name my price and thank them for the call.
I don't give referrals.

There's a sucker for every deal. Make enough calls, sooner or later, someone will say yes to something.

Great comeback to them. I guess they got the message
that the fee they were offering wasn't reasonable. ;-) LOL

When my sweet little mother gets a telemarketer on her telephone, she picks up her whistle and blows on it. She's bound and determined to stop these unwanted telemarketing calls. Maybe we should all try this.

I like your style...
A few years ago, I was at a real estate event where the speaker told a story similar to yours - he was representing a seller who was asking about $300K, and a buyer's agent called with a ridiculously low offer, somewhere around $150K. He countered at $2 million.
The buyer's agent said "are you crazy??" His response: "No crazier than you. Call me when you want to make a serious offer."
THAT is the attitude NSAs need to take, because you will never make a profit accepting the fees these people want to pay.
