Payment up front?

I have read a few comments on signing central where signing agents said they requested payment upfront via paypal. Just wonder how many of you do this and what companies agree to it.

Thanks!

NSAs usually ask companies to pay up front through Paypal when they know it's highly unlikely they would ever be paid otherwise. Problem with this is that it only serves to keep the no-pay hiring agencies in business. Notaries who use this approach are of the mentality that "as long as I get mine, I don't care how many other notaries got screwed and will continue to get screwed by this scumbag outfit." My observation is that the companies that agree to it are the worst of the worst and only do so cos they're desperate and can't get anybody to take their jobs using the normal pay procedure.

Notaries who proudly post they were successful in getting a no-pay company to prepay are uniformly excoriated on this forum; thus there won't be many who will admit to it in response to your post; so it's unlikely you'll get a helpful account.

However, if you're thinking of asking reputable, reliable hiring agencies about prepaying just to test the waters, I bet you'll get some interesting responses.

Hardly "uniformly." I'm not really interested in driving anybody out of business; I'm interested in seeing that companies set fair fees, and that they actually pay those fees once incurred. Advance payment, it seems to me, fits right in with both those aims.

Yikes!Whadda you been smokin??

Must be the good don't worry, be happy stuff. Maybe in another life your dream (our dream) will come true, but until then I'd like nothing better than to see the demise of, say, SOX. I can't envision they and any of their compadres are ever going to see the evil of their ways, repent and start paying - fair fees or otherwise. They're got a stunningly successful record of making millions off NSAs who do "volunteer work" for them.

I never do it. If it's a company that's so bad that I'm concerned about getting paid, I'm not going to accept the job to begin with. Like Goldgirl said, I don't want to have any part in keeping the low-lifes in business.

However, I'm not very hopeful that they'll ever cease to have a continuous supply of people to bilk who don't know any better. For some reason, though, I seldom get those calls. I can only think of two possible explanations: a) there are plenty of other people in my area who ARE taking those calls, or b) they use the XYZ database, where I haven't had a listing in many years. I suspect there's a little bit of truth in both options.

By the way, I'm not aware of any good companies that are willing to pay in advance, probably because they don't have to. But the good ones will pay within a reasonable period of time - and without fail.

If I haven't worked for a company before and they have a less than stellar rating on here I tell them I will only accept partial paypal payment before printing the docs. I have had so many places burn me and I never have problems closing.

I only accept paypal now. if they want it closed and they beg yell and scream then find someone else. Sorry. A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush.
