ScanSnap question

This machine just scans, no fax ability, correct? How do you get around the files that come with a barcode scan page that loads the docs into the computer when the fax is received? Do you scan the whole thing and then tell the title company to do the faxing? I don't mind faxbacks on investment properties but these funding faxes are simply too much. My all-in-ones croaked so I am trying to decide on a fax machine or a ScanSnap. No use in purchasing a ScanSnap if I still have to maintain a fax. Your feedback would be appreciated. Thanks much!

The Scan Snap scans, then you email the file.

It is much easier than faxing, faster too. Most places would rather receive the scan - comes as PDF file, clarity is wonderful compared to faxing too.

Faxes are dinosaurs.

Why Scan Snap?

Why not just download the FREE CamScanner app to your phone? works great!

Re: Why Scan Snap?

If I email the pdf from my computer, I can encrypt the email. If I email it from the droid, I don't see a way to encrypt it. Am I missing something?

ScanSnap is a SCANNER.

In order to fax, you have to then send the file to an email to fax service (efax, metrofax, etc.) or if the service allows it, secure the PDF file you created with a proper password and email it to them directly. More and more, that's what they prefer anyway. I have one local escrow company that has me log in to their system and upload the scanned PDF directly to their system.

Thanks for the comprehensive response Smile It appears emailing the pdf would not satisfy the files that require a fax with barcode. Looks like I am stuck with a fax Frown

Ronnie, I'm confused about how the bar code impacts the need to fax vs. email. If you fax it, it either spews out of the fax machine or ends up as an email anyway, depending on whether the TC's receiving fax is old school or converts everything to email. If you email it, it ends up in the email of someone. Either way, don't they need to scan in the barcode somewhere once it arrives?

The barcode/fax method dumps the document into the title company and lender computers attaching it to their escrow/loan on their end.

So somehow they have a magic fax that reads the barcodes of incoming faxed documents and sends the information into the system? Cool.

Yes, the fax number actually belongs to their computer, not a fax machine.

You can fax a pdf

If you have fax program on your computer (my version of MS Office has it built in) you can scan the docs to pdf then open the pdf, click "print" and choose the fax program as the printer. Problem solved.

Yes Ronnie what about what Linda said? I have the same

problem. Companies say FAX do not EMAIL. But if you had an e fax program that would work, right? I just don't understand the e fax programs very well. Most have monthly limits. I don't have any free software with my computer. I do so many investment properties that I have kept a dedicated phone line for 14.99 a month to fax. Also, when I fax it doesn't tie up my computer the way scanning docs does. Does that happen to everyone? When you are scanning you cannot use your computer? I find faxing just as fast as scanning, but you don't know which page may be missing when you confirmation says 120 pages sent and there should have been 121Frown
