Roughly 56 pp of civil code, not an easy read, lots of penalties and remedies for wrong doing.
$10,000 for not collecting ID at the time of notarization, falsification of document, plus a felony conviction. What is your state's penalties for the same?

The booklet in Kansas used to be about 39 pages. Its now online only. Now this is overkill but I also have a complete set of the Kansas Statutes Annotated too and Its something like 40 hardbound volumes of full sized books. I rarely look anything up in those since most of what I research can be found on line.

Florida's 102 pages, including statutes, glossary and Index.
It is well worth printing and carrying about with one.
Ours is online if you wish to peruse: http://www.flgov.com/notary_ref_manual/

Our current handbook is numbered at 47 pages, and about half of it is all just relevant state law/code as opposed to actual handbook or rules. And, inn it's printed form, it's only 8.5"x5"... so, really...not that big.
But then, we also have the sample workbook which they have been promoting lately, which goes in to more depth and procedures. This is an educational workbook that is pre-approved by the Secretary of State for use by the educational vendors to teach the state mandated notary classes. The vendors can use this workbook as-is, or they can write and submit their own material for approval. The point being, though, that the sample workbook is a more detailed version of the handbook and, since also approved by the Secretary of State and on their website... just as important a reference, IMO.
That can be found here: http://www.sos.ca.gov/business/notary/forms/notary-education-sample-workbook-2013.pdf
It's 65 pages and doesn't rehash as much code, but gives examples and situations that, frankly, are more helpful than the handbook itself sometimes.

Have it at the office, but I think it's 650ish just for the
SoS book. Then there's Civil Code books and Revised Statutes.
