Well... the question you really need to figure out, first, is what backgrounds checks your preferred companies will accept. Some will accept some checks, and not others. Some will only accept a specific background checks and certification to the exclusion of all others. Reasonable or not... if you get end up relying on just one because it was reasonably priced, you may end up with a screening that some companies won't accept, even if it is a perfectly legitimate background screening.

What you have to do is weigh the income potential of these different companies and decides which, if any of their requests (or demands) your are willing to go with. Many notaries end up obtaining 3-4 different screenings done just to make everyone happy so they can get work. Other notaries won't get any at all unless the company requesting it pays for it.

Some of us (in CA) have to have to go through a fingerprinting and background check just as part of obtain our commissions. But, for lenders, title, escrow and signing companies... that's not good enough. We have to pay for another screening.... or multiple other screenings to make these companies happy.

I agree with what you are saying, it can get costly. I purchased my background check in 2011 thru NNA which I thought would be acceptable by all SS only to find out some would not accept NNA screening.

Well that's a new one! It's usually the opposite of that.

If you click the link in the column to the left that says "Background Checks" you can get the one done here through NotRot. Premier Members get it for $29.00 (you supply your username and it calculates it for you). I actually just had it done last last week because I had an escrow company ask me to do it. FOr me, the $29.00 was worth it, because I'd actually worked with them before and the work they've sent me was quite good. However, the scheduler said that even they knew that since I was a CA notary I passed a BGC (and recently since y commission just renewed last November) their corporate office back east was asking for them across the board. They said they'd accept the one here from NotRot if they could see the little NP symbol on my profile... they'd know I'd passed and would be happy.

For me, it was worth it to do that. I won't do anything else for the time being unless I think I need to. For now, I don't.

I got mine here from NR. I absolutely refuse to give

the other organization one more cent.
