Credit Card Rules

This following pertains to most of us:

Beware...credit card users...starting today stores can pass along the interchange fee to us! They can charge up to 4% fee on purchases (except in 10 states). Apparently they have to post it and disclose it at the register but according to the news be alert before handing over the plastic. Dors not apply to debit cards.
Here's one story that explains it http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/mastercard-visa-users-pay-cards-article-1.1248759

I was glad to see that Florida is exempt. Great post...thank you.

"The surcharges won’t affect consumers making credit card purchases in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Oklahoma and Texas."

ummm they have been doing that for years. Nothing new, just now they have to disclose it. Some merchants already charge a 25 cent fee for debit card use. My doc office charges 5% for using a credit card. I had to pay court fines and they charge 4% per credit card transactions

Thanks. I think the important word in the article is"might"

As I understand it, it was illegal for merchants to pass their processing fees onto the consumer. IMO accepting cards & their fees is part of the cost of doing business.
Biz is bad in many areas, especially retail, and I think they're looking for ways to cut their costs. IMO it will hurt them to charge to use a cc. They might lose that biz altogether.
I know I would back away from paying an additional fee for the "privilege" of using my cc.
