Encryption Software for Sending Docs by Email Question
Non tech geek here. Can someone recommend an easy to use encryption program to send my docs by email? I imagine you then need to send a password. Also wondering can any user on the other end then open? I'm reading where not all software is compatible with all systems and then how would you know if your end user can access your documents? I'm lost trying to read all the different options on the web. And my Windows Vista has no built in program. Thank you for any help, signed Clueless

I agree with ToniK that Adobe PDF format is the format that others are most likely to be able to use, because the free Adobe reader that nearly everyone has can read files that have been password-protected by Adobe Acrobat Standard or Pro. Probably the next most common password-capable program is Microsoft Word, but many people don't have that, or don't have an up-to-date version.

Re: Would Like to Use Adobe but Doesn't Work with Vista
I have Vista and I've used it on the back-end with Adobe encrypted files without issue. I use Primo to create encrypted. Not sure what you are saying? You can't encrypt files using Adobe if you run Vista as OS?

Windows comes with WinZip, which can zip and encrypt any file or set of files. Choose "self-extracting" option and anyone can open without special software. Only trouble is, it is an .exe file which some systems can interpret as a virus.

As I understand it, WinZip is a product from WinZip Computing, S.L., A Corel Company. They offer a free trial but eventually you have to buy it.
I also understand that the higher levels of Windows 7, Professional and Ultimate, have the ability to compress a file to a folder and add a password in the process. But Windows Home Premium does not have the ability to add a password. I don't know if a folder that was compressed and password-protected on W7 Pro could be extracted on W7 Home Premium.
