Liberty Title and Flagship Financial Group
I was contracted to do a VA Refi through Signature Closers, LLC who I can't speak highly enough of. The guy said he was pretty sure the doc package would be more lengthy than the last Refi I did for them which went smooth. He upped my fee, and I'm pleased with their services. When title got the docs to them and they were forwarded to me - 235 pages. Really? I begin perusing this tome. The vast majority of the docs are reprints, interoffice docs, initial loan applications, reprints, modifications to initial loan applications, more reprints...and so it goes.
The couple was one of the nicest couples I've met, and they understood that the length of the packet was no fault of mine. But the gentleman raised a very pointed and interesting question: Why do they treat us Veterans this way? A signing which should have only taken 1 hr to 1 hr 15 mins took 2 and a half hours and made the gentleman late for his maintenance job at a big box store. (And that was signing at the speed of light on all parties accounts!)
The slight increase in pay I received, though appreciated and welcomed was not worth the exorbitant increase in time this closing took. What was worth my time was spending the morning with a Vietnam vet and his wife being able to, even if only slightly, give back to him for the service he has given this country. Of course, I could have done that over breakfast at Denny's.
Either way, lesson learned. I get another 200+ doc package. I'm either a) requesting a higher fee for services rendered or b) requesting they find another notary.

I'm not sure why the package was so big- I've done many VA loans and there are maybe less than 5 pages additional for them to sign. It's possible you were having them sign the RESPA documents, which were supposed to be signed before closing, or that they were going through a broker, who typically wants duplicate copies for their own records. Most definitely request a higher fee for the job AND a higher print fee! If you quote a price without knowing the full extent of the number of pages/amount of work, it is perfectly fine to go back to the TC and ask for a fee adjustment.

Perhaps it's Liberty Title that should be the focus of your "issue." I'm not aware of any SS that has control over the size of the pkg. I did one of these 235-page signings for an increase in fee *which was offered by Signature Closers.* There is another SS who provides me with many closings and when they say BofA my fee automatically goes up $20 for all the faxbacks they require. If they choose to contract with me at that rate, I happily fax back 40+ pages. We all have choices in which jobs we choose to accept. Again, the SS doesn't have control over the size of the pkg or how many fax backs are required.
