Personal safety as a Notary

The other day I was coming out of my canyon, I noticed five suspicious cars, packed full of people, I'd never seen before. It was broad daylight. Every hair on my body stood straight up. I took pictures of license plates. There were children there too swinging on the rope tied to the huge tree with a tire at the end. Still, I felt I needed to document this. The cars were older and not in good condition, and the people in them looked strange to me. Not from here for sure.

Crime is on the rise. Often we're so busy trying to get somewhere, we are not aware of things going around us we probably should be documenting somehow, like calling a neighbor to share the event with.

Our police chief in Santa Barbara made a presentation to City Council this week about the rise in crime in this area, and I'm sure statewide due to the alignment of prisoners being released back into society due to overcrowding of jails and lack of funds to build new facilities.

It is alarming to know that events like these are happening in broad daylight. These are skilled perpetrators, and they learned more about their craft in jail. I noted that most property taken is not found, and that hardly any of the events have been solved to date. There was a surge over the holidays. Many people away from home. We simply don't have enough law enforcement to monitor all our neighborhoods.

I hope everyone uses more caution while out there parking, jumping out of their cars to be right on time and looks and sees everything around them. Kinda wished I had a driver to look out for me so I can focus on the work at hand and not have to be my own security guard.

Day and night, we need to be careful out there, guys and girls. I try to keep one hand free as soon as I set the alarm on my car and to park in a lighted area at night if possible.

I guess these are the people who could potentially become future notaries? Not sure. I'm taking my renewal class and exam February 13, 2013, let you know if we have any previous felons in class (haha!).

Please be safe out there and keep a watchful eye for suspicious people/activities.

Have an awesome day!

Re: Here in San Antonio

Had a incidents here at the movie theater and the man came out of restroom shooting and a off duty security lady ran to where the shots were coming from and she shot him before he killed everyone. Strange that story was never covered in national news. She was given a award!

Re: Here in San Antonio

Too bad the main stream media has chosen not to air this story. Many lives were probably saved due to her heroic actions. But the story is getting out there. I'm seeing it more and more. If you are on Facebook be sure to share it with your friends.

To me this was gun control at it's finest . . . she had a gun and took control.

These mass shooters are cowards and are choosing locations that they think they can do the most damage in the fastest means. Notice that they never try to shoot up a police station or a gun show. If the new media won't share these kind of stories, then we need to. Thanks for bringing it up!

To Les

I can only assume that your post is the result of pot legalization in your state. Take this political tirade to JP. If you want to discuss personal safety for notaries, give yourself some time until you are no longer under the influence, then try agan.

Re: To Les

No my post was a comment on some of my views about personal safety as initiated by the OP. If we each had the ‘personal safety’ options that the President and his family have then there would be no need to discuss this subject. And no I didn’t smoke any pot or anything else this morning. And if you think my post, and my opinions are inappropriate, why not just report it as such?
