Online filing or using a computer tax program is fine if you understand how to use a computer and the questions the tax programs asks. Also, it is necessary to update the program before filing your return with out of the box software.
If you do not understand tax law, then you are better off with a CPA or Enrolled Agent. It is cheaper to do your tax return correctly the first time than to pay an additional fee to have a professional file and amended return or IRS tax letters for you.

You are better off using an EA (Enrolled Agent) to do your taxes. We are tax experts. A CPA is an accountant and they have no requirement for CEU in tax. You may be using a CPA with little-to-no continuing ed in taxation. EAs are required to have 72 CEUs in taxation every three years.
EAs tend to be far less expensive that CPAs, as well. And, if you do not know how to do taxes, then no boxed software is good enough. You don't know what you don't know. If you can't afford a professional for your taxes, you probably shouldn't be self-employed. It's an important part of your business. Julie Dailey, EA - Julie's Tax Service
