They Brought Their Sick Kid To The Signing....

......and the mom was sick too......and they gave it to me. I can't believe people can be so stupid and so rude. Don't they know how very contagious this crap is? I have been sick in bed since Christmas Eve with a horrible case of influenza. What a way to end the year.....and what a way to start the new year. I had to turn everything back and I haven't been able to accept anything new either. The title companies I sign for have been very understanding, but I sure hate this. This is my ninth day of being sick and the first day I am able to sit up at the computer.

Sorry you're not feeling well, PegiT.

However, as MOBILE notaries, we must take responsibility for our own well-being. We know we are going into people's homes and that there may be illness in those homes. Most of us shake hands with borrowers, loan officers, escrow officers, etc. We don't know if those people wash their hands as often as we would like them to.

There are flu vaccines available. There are hand sanitizers available. There are masks, etc. It's up to each of us to decide if we make use of all or any precautions available to us.

Not saying your borrower wasn't "stupid and so rude." Just sayin' ......

Take good care of yourself and get well real soon!

I agree Yoli. Alot of ppl have been sick this month especially here in VA with this strange weather. Its just the bad part of doing business with the public and I dont see it as stupid or rude. Unless they are coughing all over you and the docs.

Re: Sorry you're not feeling well, PegiT.

I just want to let everyone know that this particular strain of influenza known as H3 is a very serious epidemic. A young man died from complications of it over Christmas. It is very contagious and the flu shot is only 60% effective. All the hand washing in the world is not going to save you from stupid rude people who come to a closing with it and hark all over you. Yes they harked on me and the papers. A mask may have saved me from this, but I highly doubt it.

Re: Sorry you're not feeling well, PegiT.

You keep saying that "they brought" or they came to a closing. What are you meaning by this? Did you go to their home or somewhere else? I, for one will turn down a closing if "I" am sick, which is very very rare. It would be very rude of me to go into someone's home with a fever and the flu. Happened maybe twice in 8 years, but I/We have no control over what people do in their own homes. I remember one time a hubby had to get his sick wife out of bed to sign. She looked and felt horrible. I kept my distance as best I could. She was coughing, hacking, had a fever. Felt so bad for her. We got it done. I did not take my pen back. I did not get sick either. Sorry it happened to you, but that's the risk we take everyday in this business. They obviously needed this loan or they would have waited. You probably saved them a ton of money. I know that's no consolation since you got so sick. Hope you feel better soon. Your immune system must not be up to par.

Re: Sorry you're not feeling well, PegiT.

Yes they brought their very sick child into a closing room at a local title company where I was conducting their purchase closing. Their son had been down in the car with the wife because they had just left the hospital with him and the mother decided she wanted to bring him into the room with her when it was her turn to sign instead of having one of their many relatives who came with them go down to the car and wait with him. He was harking and she was harking too.

And just so everyone knows......your immune system can be very much up to par....but this is not some little cold or flu we are talking about. This is the real deal H3 influenza outbreak. Not just some little sore throat or sinus infection. This stuff is very contagious.

Ugh... of course they did...

I, as always in October, submitted to my annual vaccination. However; the CDC (late November) issued a warning about this particular "variant" strain, and that it would appear Later In The Traditional Flu Season. It is particularly contagious, and, unfortunately, not a sufficiently strong (the agency actually makes a normally good guess here) portion of the serum this year. I doubt very seriously that there was anything you could do (beyond the standard sanitary conditions I know you always take) to prevent this. Frown

I so hope to hear of your continued recovery...

Pleased to know that your T/Cs have been understanding, that is not always the scenario...

May 2013 bring forth another "stellar year." Smile

I Can't Believe People Are So Casual About It

It's not your garden variety little cold or sore throat.....it's H3 influenza and it is very serious and it is very contagious. You can wash your hands all you want, you can get a flu shot, you can have perfect health, and you can still get this stuff. They talk about it on the news every night. A young man died from this crap. Some people have been sick for three weeks with it.

Honestly its life. We all get sick eventually.

And if you are that scared of catching this, maybe you should stay in the house until the media says its ok to venture out.

Same thing was said about the swine flu...

Okay, that was a good hard kick with the left foot, Toni

Wanna give her another good hard one with the right foot while she's still down and reeling? Maybe to the head this time.

I'm with you, Peg

My respiratory system is so compromised, a 9-day case of the flu probably carries a better than even chance of being fatal for me.

Geez, they hauled their kid out of the hospital and into an office for a real estate closing? I think you'd be too charitable if you describe them as stupid and thoughtless.

Re: I'm with you, Peg

I agree that it was very rude and thoughtless of them being around anyone else being so sick. Did you call the place where the closing took place and see if anyone else got sick? I sure would. I also bet my bottom dollar that the LO, RE Agent was the one pushing them to close that day. They probably didn't give a hoot if they were sick and told them it would only take a few min. The almighty $$ wins again. Get well soon.

This may very well happen again next week or the week after when you go to someone's home not knowing. Its the chance we all take everyday, all day. I have yet to ask when confirming if anyone is sick. Do you??

I, too, agree with Peg and Hugh. It's rude and thoughtless.

I've been ill since mid-December and had to turn back many closings. Flu, strep, etc. It would be rude on my part to attend a settlement and potentially make others ill. Thankfully, my TCs have also been understanding. Additionally, I don't want other people coughing and hacking on me as I am a heart patient. I keep sanitizer and tissues on hand, but people if you are sick - stay home.

It is appalling that people are so driven by the almighty $$, they put other's health at risk, including their own. I wish you a speedy recovery and do a lot of antioxidant liquids and fruits, get well soon.

Sorry that happened to you. I think we've all been in this situation in our careers as NSAs.

I am very sorry to hear that you have been so sick. I totally agree with you. People need to start to be responsible for their actions. I'm tired of people making excuses for lack of manners, or responsibility. They were sick. They knew they were sick. Sick enough to be at the hospital for treatment. Duh?!? And now they are "sharing" it around.

I don't want it. My husband can't have it! We've almost lost him a few times because people were sharing their garbage. The school system hates me. I keep my kids home when they are sick. If other parents did this too, then maybe my kids wouldn't have gotten sick. The school doesn't care that they are sick, they want their rears in seats so that they get paid.

I understand that not everyone knows that they are coming down with something and expose people to it. That is different. And it happens. Stuff happens. But this isn't stuff. They deliberately shared their illness with PegiT all in the name of getting their signing done. Point blank wrong. Are they helping to pay her bills, compensate her for loss wages, compensate her for loss holiday time . . .??? Heck no. They didn't care about anyone else, but themselves. She at least is being responsible and not sharing it with others by taking signings during this time period.

I'm off my soap box. Some of the posts I read on this just make me shake my head and wonder. PegiT I truly hope that you are well soon. To your success in 2013!
