question about swearing in

I've heard of this before, but never done it. A woman called to ask me to come to her house early in the morning to swear her in either during or prior to a phone call with a Florida court. Has anyone done this? I'm not sure exactly what they want from me.

Have only done it 3 times; all years ago. You arrive a bit early, ID the person, wait for the phone call or the person testifying calls in at the prearranged time. You state your name, notary, say you've identified the person-by-name and swear 'em in using your state's wording; then leave. Seem to remember a one page form I had to fax or mail back---sorry, no longer am sure about that.

I've also done this a few times. Like Lee said, arrive a few min early to ID them cause once the phone rings, its all about them, no time to find ID. Just swear them in like you would any other signing. I ask if they want me to stay and have been told no. It's usually 10 min and you're done. Easy Peasy.

Everyone above is correct about arriving early to the appointment. Regarding remaining once the deposition or testimony has begun - do not. You will more than likely have to speak to the judge making the request via phone and he may request you to fax some information to him. Either way, I have been advised to not be present when the constituent receives the phone back. Just my 2 denarii for Charon's demanded fee to cross.

The most important part....

Get payment before swearing in.

I didn't one time and regretted it. I had a long wait til it ended.

I do these frequently, and I charge my regular hourly rate as a travel fee because it is a very simple process.

these are no biggie, you are on speakerphone with the

judge, clerk, et al, they ask you questions, like to state your name for the "record", and then they ask if you've verified the identity of the witness, you say yes, by way of photo identification and its noted in your notary journal, then they ask you to swear in the witness...the you say to her/him, "lift up your right hand, do you solemnly swear (or affirm) that the testimony you are about to give.."bla bla bla...

You'll probably be excused by the judge, and you'll be in and out in like 10 minutes...easy money.

I wonder if its the same lady that called me to come out on the same morning as her hearing...was Florida too......crazy last minute calls....
