Are you still a notary?, Love those calls.
If this is the first thing you here from a scheduler, you know the answer is NO. I know things are slow right now, just please don't reduce your fees and work for chump change. You are running a business, be positive, and be in control.

Can you help us out with a signing in your area, it's only xxx pages, two miles from you = $xx 45 biz days, fax backs.

One of those companies you all complain about offering $60 with faxbacks called me the other day and wanted me to do a signing up in the mountains. I said with faxbacks and the distance involved, I won't go up there for less than $200. I wonder why they haven't called back.

I had one of those type calls. Then asked my fee and said it was too high. They will find someone else a little cheaper. Lol

Don't these people have no shame.
I could not call notaries for such a low fee. You gotta walk in someone's shoes.

Re: These schedulers are probably not getting paid much per hour
They are clueless. I'll bet they have a script they are reading from with a set amount of $$$...I've had calls from a couple of new companies, and I can tell they were recruited from craigslist.org (office help wanted), no work experience, willing to train. Entry level position, must be a team player (you know what that means, long hours, short pay!).

A call this week for a refi 74 miles one-way at evening commute time with turnpike fees and they said the 'absolute highest they could go' was $160. I replied - as if mumbling to myself - 3 hours min travel time, turnpike fees, gas $30, toner, self-employment taxes, business insurance, vehicle insurance, time to print and review docs, +/- an hour for the signing - all tolled approx 5 hours. Oh, would you drive 74 miles one-way in commute time traffic for that fee? She adamantly said, 'No way!' I said, 'You're right and neither will I."
I echo the walk-a-mile sentiment!!
Thanks for all your support and input! Helps me to stay positive when encountering this kind of exchange.

Got a huge chuckle from your post!! I think you all hit the nail on the head. The schedulers are probably low paid and have never taken two steps, let alone walked a mile, in our shoes, so they have no idea. Their focus is simply on filling an appointment and they probably have a very 2-dimentional idea of what is involved. The only thing they have to do on is what they're told. However, when you're talking to the owner of a signing service, there's no excuse, imo.

Exactly. I know some of those folks thinks we're making a
killing for the fees we get. After all, it's equal to over 13 hrs. @ 7.50/hr. to make $100. Self-employment isn't as easy as it all looks.

First thing - are you still a notary? You'd be surprised
I quit signings in 2008, or the very first part of 2009. All of my online profiles and web page state I no longer do signings, although I am still a notary. I still get, on the average, between 3 and 5 calls a week for signings, although 90% of them, just spurt out their blurb about the signing and asking if I'm available?
