Fedex didn't just lose the pkg.. they lost the DROPBOX!

So I get a call from a title company this morning looking for a package. I dropped it on Monday so should be there today. Trace is put on the package. I get a call from another title company stating the same. I call FEDEX to inquire if the box had been serviced. Their system doesn't show a box in that location. (Only 1 box in my zipcode). That's just crazy...I've used that box for 7 years! So, I drive to the location and the box is gone. I've been on the phone all day with 5 different people and still no one can tell me where that box is. Fedex Box Graveyard? Refurbishing station? Another office park?

Nutshell, FEDEX moved the box and failed to empty it and no one seems to know where it is.

Looks like I have two closings to resign on Friday.

Oh My!! I hope you have a twitter or fb account - because this just needs to be given attention to; and I bet that box WILL show up then. Definitely going to keep dropping at store!!

p.s. This reminds me of when metro area north of me couldn't account for the missing ambulances; soon as it got out that people's lives were at risk, someone "found" the missing vehicles Smile

My first thought was that it was stolen because someone wanted something in it, but if even FedEx doesn't know it was supposed to or formerly was there, then something else obviously is going on.

Not only no notice but recently placed their July 4 schedule

I'm being paid for the resigns.

One fedex employee has been working on this for hours. She called, frustrated that she keeps hitting brick walls. I empathized!

I will be sure to post the outcome.

Monday you dropped it at a drop box. Today, Wednesday, that same box is no longer there?!!!

OMG!!!

Karla... You are correct. Drop box has been in same location for 7 years. Dropped packages at 2:00 on Monday. Never scanned. Box is not there at 2:00 today. No one at fedex has yet to tell me where the box is located. Just that they had it moved.

The closest store is 13 miles. This drop box has served me well for 7 years and 2 miles away. I will continue to use drop boxes...next one is 5 miles away.

I agree with Linda and I've posted before

I do not use drop boxes for either carrier. I either take to pack-n-ship or to UPS store - will not use a box -

I'm amazed, even after this, you'll continue to use boxes. So you'll continue to take a risk.

Good Luck.

Just got a notice the other day in my e-mail from a

very good company for me

When returning documents, do NOT use drop boxes - if at all possible drop at FedEx, UPS or a manned facility.

Now, gee, I wonder why companies are asking their notaries to do that.

Yes, I will remain amazed. Seen too much with UPS and FedEx - boxes not collected, not cleared completely, etc etc ... and NOW the whole box moved without being checked. - yes, I'll use a manned facility every time - and my fees reflect that travel required.

I've received the same instructions too, but when I tell them, for example, that the nearest staffed FedEx counter is 45 miles away and I'm more than happy to drive it here provided they pay me for the service... they tell me, "Just use the box."

The nearest staffed UPS dropoff is 15 miles away, but it has a very small window where it's open to the public.. specifically only 3-5pm Mon-Fri, and even then they don't always open. I've been there during the "open" time and found the doors locked on more than one occasion.

Could have been thieves disguising it as a fedex box and stealing it...hoping it had something worth stealing like an ATM machine has.

You just reconfirmed why I don't use a drop box, unless forced too. I almost always (99.9%) take the package directly to a Fed Ex location and get a receipt for shipping.

My son's mother-in-law told me several years ago that she had dropped some tax documents in a FedEx box and without any notice, FedEx picked up that box and replaced it with another, without ever checking to see if there were any documents in it. A couple of YEARS later, FedEx notified her they had found the package. After hearing that story, I now go to a FedEx office or HUN only.

Still cannot believe, but just wondering . . .

Will fedex be reaching out to the borrowers with any kind of "remedy" for possible ID theft concerns? After all, it seems like they have multiple 'clients' in this thing.

(usually when something like this occurs, the co. will pay for some type of credit monitoring for a period)

Recently they removed from post offices almost everywhere..

Re: Still cannot believe, but just wondering . . .

In our county, there is a UPS office and a Hub. There is one FedEx dropbox. I get tired of the situation at the dropbox. The agent doesn't always refill the supply shelves. I left notices inside the box twice in a row, and finally taped it to the front of the box. He didn't even fill up the shelves but at least there was an adequate supply. I always carry extras in my car after having to make a big-enough envelope out of two manila envelopes one time.

The county east of here has a UPS office and supposedly dropboxes for FedEx at obscure locations. The county south of that has only a UPS Hub and FedEx dropbox. Recently, I shipped by UPS at the first county with destination of another state. Instead of sending the package north and then east, which would have taken it in a large city, they sent it south to the other county with the Hub. It is a small town. There it stayed. The title company called me, frantic, so I called around. The package was in stasis. I told the agent that there was nothing that either of us could do. I don't know whether driving there and picking it up would have helped.

My story certainly doesn't top yours. I'm thinking by reading between the lines in the OP that other NSA's have often encountered shipments in "layover", so to speak.

Latest update

Fedex hires a service contractor to move boxes. They REFUSED to reveal their service vendor. They have to protect their vendors. Really?? What about my customers identity?

I should expect a call tomorrow. Can't wait.

Re: Latest update

They also use private contractors to pick up and deliver packages. I found that out a couple of months ago when I signed a loan for a FedEx contractor. They use regular FedEx painted trucks that I believe they own. They may possibly be used to pick up drop boxes too.

So if the liability is transferred to a contractor what difference does it make to take it to a FedEx center?
Have you ever driven next to or behind a FedEx truck on the freeway? I try to get away from them!

Marion can tell you that two weeks ago we had a FedEx truck get hit by a plane! The pilot was killed. Anything can happen. Feel safer now? Fortunately the driver was inside making a pickup but was so shaken he had to go home for the day. Packages were transferred to another truck. Don't know if any were destroyed.

I use a FedEx drop box in front of a bank that they no doubt use as well. It's a very busy area and the only drop box in town so I feel secure as possible it will get picked up and delivered. Just watch for falling objects. Really sad about that pilot. I don't think they have made a positive I.D. on him though they're pretty sure who it is. Very sad for the family.

For those who use drop boxes

If you HAVE to use a drop box, I suppose you can take photos of the drop box, have someone go with you when you're making the drop and take photos with close-ups of the package label, then a photo of you putting the package in the box. Email the photo to yourself immediately so it is time-stamped. Archive the photos and now you have *something* if the docs don't show up on schedule. If that's not feasible, then you'll just have to drop the docs and hope for the best.

Wow...a whole drop box gone! You'd figure the movers had the common sense to empty it so it would be easier on the forklift or crane (or whatever) to move it. Oh, well!!

FedEx can DO anything it wants with their boxes (notice would be nice) - But
in a well-oiled global transit operation, you don't know who your servicers are in single-box
only areas??

This hurts my head (and gives new meaning to document "pickup"). Some executive heads
may be "rolling" this minute Frown

I have asked FedEx to please number every drop box they have; because I have tried calling in a problem with them, while telling the customer service where its located is a challenge. I told them that if they were able to enter a box # then it should pop up exactly where the location is.
I love to drop following closings, but sometimes its not possible. I will not drive outside a 5 mile area to reach an office, so if the company doesn't want to use a drop box then they will either wait until I am going to be going by an office or I will call for a FedEx pick up and they can carry the extra cost; either way it works for me.
I agree that if FedEx doesn't get this resolved quickly, I would call the Local New. There should be a warning notice posted on any box at least 1 week prior to being moved. And ALWAYS should be emptied prior to removing and then locked shut to avoid this from ever happening again..
