My Suggestions On Dealing With Non Paying Companies
It seems like almost every single day I read about a notary that has not been able to collect their money from a title company or a signing company. It's hard enough being self employed and having to hustle for the business, yet alone having to spend our days trying to collect what is due to us.
I would like to take a moment and offer my suggestions on dealing with non paying companies. So many notaries go to the Better Business Bureau. The BBB is not going to do anything for you in helping you collect your funds. The BBB is a rating system, not a means of collection. They could care less if you get your money or not.
Many notaries try and go straight to the title company and collect funds, if in fact it was a signing company that did not pay them. I am going to tell you right now that the title company is probably already aware of the fact that the signing company is not paying and probably doesn't give a crap. My guess would be that if a title company is using a signing company that has a history of low pay or no pay, it is because they are bottom feeders themselves. Birds of a feather flock together.
Here is how you get your money. You find out who the owner's of the title company or signing company are that you did the work for. You call the County Attorney's office or Prosecutor's office in said county and you report them for theft by swindle. They have hired you to perform a job and are not paying you for services rendered. If they have a history of no pay, then it proves a pattern with this company and the county and state they are located in don't take kindly to companies that are committing fraud and swindling people out of money.
How I know this works is because I made that call and the County Attorney/Prosecutor was very interested in what I had to say. I then contacted the signing company who has a history of not paying their notaries and let them know what kind of legal action the county would be taking against them and I had my check in my hand within five days.
I hope this is helpful for anyone out there that is trying to collect from some of these scum companies out there.

Excellent suggestion!
If the county folks get enough calls, these thieves will eventually get on their radar. This may be the only way to finally put them out of business and let the work go to companies that are upstanding, do good business, and actually pay their notaries as promised - and a decent fee, to boot.
I also think it would be useful for us to come up with some way of distinguishing between the companies that are outright thieves, i.e. they don't pay at all, or regularly short checks, vs. those that pay lowball fees or take a super long time to pay. It may feel like a slight difference - and I wouldn't want to work for either kind - but if someone says they pay $65 @ 60 days out, that's pretty pathetic, but it's not illegal if they've disclosed that upfront.

I agree. Especially people who have demonstrated criminal backgrounds, although expunged, their true character and lack of business acumen is their exhibited demeanor.
Put the low lifes out of business. DO NOT WORK FOR THEM KEEPING THEM ON THE RADAR SCREEN. Between all the complaints to the County DA and the escrow/title company, they will ultimately fall out of grace.
It's clear to me the low pay no pay companies DO NOT HAVE WORKING CAPITAL. They are using our money to keep on truckin, having a good ole time, taking luxury vacations, living it up on our hard earned dollars.

Another option.
For companies that are out of state, filing a complaint with IC-3, the FBI internet fraud division helps. They forward the information to the respective policing agency for local processing. This, in addition to, PegiT MN's suggestion could provide a 1-2 punch.

Enough enough, they'll cry! (Hopefully)
I think the threat that some authority might actually take a look at their cheating ways might get many to finally pay up. Make a list of everybody you intend to notify: as PegiT suggested the county district attorney (tho in California that probaby wouldn't do much good because many DA offices don't even prosecute shoplifting, for one example, anymore because of cutbacks; but like I said it's the "threat" that matters.) Then move on to the internet fraud division, as John mentioned. Also, the TC, the borrower, the lender, the LO, the EO, the title company, the agency that regulates TCs in your state, the SOS, the Realtor, the agency that regulates real estate in your state, the county recorder and on and on as much as you want .... be sure to provide as many names and addresses as you can in your list so they know you've researched this carefully and mean business. Obviously, you wouldn't notify everybody on this list (thought you could) ... just those that you think will get the scumbags to pay.

Incredible.....Just Incredible
Why do people insist on working for these companies? Is it because they grasp at any signing at any price for any company? Must be. This is dumb. There are other words, but dumb seems to be the all-purpose word. This business is not rocket science but now we have so-called notaries that have no clue about getting paid.
I have been in this business for over 12 years. I learned early on: Don't work for companies that don't pay. Over the years, this site has been one of the leading sources of excellent payment information, as are other good sites.......dumb, however, will not bother to check these out, or dumb is too lazy to even check this one out. I belong to three sites that regularly have updated information. You don't work for people who don't pay. How hard is this to understand? Are people afraid to spend a dollar to belong to informational sites that will save them time and money? Apparently they are, from what I see here.
I signed a little over 1,100 loans last year (quite happy at that level). My "bad debt" was zero. Have any clue as to why? Because I didn't work for lowballers and outfits that won't pay. That's the problem with this business. We have dimwits signing loans for $40, screwing up people's loans (I get called out to repair the disaster or totally resign the loan) and then these "notaries" post messages about how they write to this or that official and bla, bla. What a waste of time! Instead of signing loans, they're busily trying to collect their $40.
In sum, there's plenty of business for professional loan signing agents that actually know that they're doing. (Right now we are being rained on by companies sending out sheet after sheet of instructions and threats because they hired morons that screwed up their loans. And I certainly wouldn't want to hire a notary that can't even get paid......what a joke!

Amen, sister. It makes absolutely no sense at all to be in this business, or any other for that matter, if you're only going to work for companies that don't pay! It's been said over and over and over.
If people are too lazy to do their homework and just say "yes" to every Tom, Dick and Harry in this space, then they deserve not to be paid. When I get a call from these companies whose reputation is so sucky and I don't know how they keep going, I either don't answer my phone or I tell them, even email them, if I have the time, their ratings from SC.
Good grief, people, step up and take care of your business. Don't say yes to these companies.
I'm watching companies drop off left and right. Only the best companies will survive if we help the bad ones go by the wayside by not working for them and their low/no pay policies.
People are only lining the pockets of thieves instead of helping their soonest demise.

I agree. Many of us got involved with bad cos. when we
were starting out & didn't know about Signing Central. It's a valuable tool in our biz, and there's no reason to get involved in collections if you are careful who you work for in the first place. There's always a risk, of course, like any other business. Cos. can fall on hard times or go out of business. I've only had a few signings I wasn't able to collect on in almost 8 years.

Hi, Happy holiday to everybody,
How about collection agency? Can they help?
Also we ask companies who didn`t pay to pay with Paypal right after signing and before I send documents. In this case, we can accept assignment but don`t have to worry about being paid.
Best
