Offered $40...
by a 3 star company, to show up at a signing...borrower already has docs and will go over the documents page by page with their closer on the phone...I merely notarize and then drop docs at Fed Ex... Sorry, I'm not going for that...he wanted to know my base fee, told him $XXX and of course he'll call back if it is approved.

Sounds like GNW plus time, travel, and courier service. Price accordingly, but not $40 bucks!!!!

What do you get in TX for a notarization? I would charge per, plus travel, plus dropping fee. Probably right up there with your quote of xxx

Last week, same offer, same terms smae $40 fee locally. A signing service mentioned many time on this form from Ca with a sister conpany. $6 max Notary here in Texas. Federal Tan rate 38%. Car expence. My time. I lost money. I'm paying them. They get paid per hour. They should have all ready explained the docs the borrower is signing and have tem prepared for the signing. What if husdand and wife need to both sign and they have only one phone, do they explain the docs twice before the borrower's sign. Is the person on the phone from the signing service a escrow officer or lawyer or will it be a processer or just another employee of the signing service? So many things wrong with this type of signing. Not just to lower our fee.

I made $60 yesterday for a single notarization at an attorney's office, request for birth certificates for four children in Stanislaus county.
$50 for trip, $10 for notarization, in and out in five minutes. Thank you, thank you, thank you, and we'll keep your card for future notarizations. We appreciate your coming on such short notice.
No late docs, no fax backs, no long closing discussion between borrower and their closing agent.
Ridiculotti!

I have similar situations, Cheryl, so I chuckle as I'm ending the call to print, run, fax, and drop for much less than I can get for just showing up with my seal.
I often compare our service to that of plumbers or electricians. They have a minimum to come to your home BEFORE they do anything. And their prices keep rising. The NSA business is the only one of which I am aware that the fees offered keep dropping, while the expectations for service are rising.

Isn't that the sad truth! I just wish we were capturing more knowledgeable, competent, reliable people as new notaries. I'm hearing horror stories about the quality of new notaries, clueless, unprofessional, get-rich wannabes. Paid $75 to learn this new skill set.
Wow! These are the people taking the $40-50 work.

... which is why fee offers keep dropping. It seems like a total disregard for quality and experience. I usually just laugh out loud and hang up at offers that low.

I refuse all lowball calls. I tell them that my work is excellent and with my experience I can get the top fees.
