Only 17 states require a journal, only 12 require exam, although 9 require a course be taken as prerequisite to becoming a notary. Looking for how many states require background check, although all title/escrow company require this if notary does loan signing.

I thought this sounded familiar as I was reading it. Years ago NREIS had this information on their web site and said they were going to implement it sometime in the future, which I don't think they every did. Anyway, you'll see the NREIS symbol at the bottom of the page.
