Someone has changed my Profile info!
If anyone has a Profile on the numbers site you might want to take a look to see if your Profile information has changed! I went on today and someone, NOT ME, changed my profile notes!! I am speechless.

That is .... troubling to say the least. I do thank you for the heads up, and I checked mine. It's intact as I left it ~3 days ago. Though I'd definitely contact someone over there if I were in your boat. Not cool.

I have heard of a situation where the numbers site owner decided to 'improve' a profile. Just change it back to what you want and keep an eye on it for a while before complaining.

Re: Only one person there can change it!
I paid good $$$ for MY listing to input MY profile. I am due to renew soon and planned on doing so since I get at least 2-3 closings a month in addition to GNW from the site. I am going to think long and hard about this. I guess there must be something in the "small print" that the owner of the site can make changes as he sees fit. He deletes profiles because they may have been reported as unprofessional, where is his professionalism?

My free listing has been deleted!
I've had a free listing with #'s for several years. I was certified through them. I took the after-midnight call from the owner a few years ago. Never had any issues with them; never a complaint filed against me - that I'm aware.
That owner did call me about a month ago to offer me a paid listing, which I declined. Any paid listing would be for lower placing than I had.
Don't know what happened. However, I've left a message for Carmen to find out what happened.

Mine too....
But then, I've been telling him to do so as we can not have a meeting of the minds. I would not have known if you had not said something. LOL
I attempted to login and got the reason:
"Error: Your listing has been deleted.
The reasons for deletion could include:
1. If it was a new listing attempt, your listing may not have met our criteria for a free listing , please see the advertise with us page for details about criteria. If you like, you can visit https:// money taking area to purchase a paid listing since you don't qualify for a free listing.
2. If it was an existing listing and you didn't pay your renewal dues on time, we might delete for that reason too.
3. If you were in the middle of your term and were deleted, that could be becuase you didn't edit your listing within (9) months. If that were the case we would have emailed you numerous times and called you at least once leaving a message if necessary reminding you to edit your listing before deleting your listing. If you got deleted in the middle of your term, we can revive the listing, but you must edit right away so your listing does not appear "delinquent" due to not keeping the information current. You must login and click "continue" at the bottom of the edit page even if nothing is to be changed so our computer will know that you keep it current.
4. Disfunctional contact numbers and email would be another cause for deletion. If you were deleted in the middle of your term for this reason, we can revive your listing upon receiving correct contact information.
5. If your listing was a free listing and we got a complaint about you from a signing, we might delete the listing to preserve the quality of the information on our directory.
If your listing was deleted, you can either email us (real address given) to inquire why you were deleted, or you can just start a new listing at https://our address given"
I don't think I am going to bother Carmen or send an email to the info box. IMHO, that site is on its way OUT, down the tubes.

I find this reason interesting..
"5. If your listing was a free listing and we got a complaint about you from a signing, we might delete the listing to preserve the quality of the information on our directory."
What happened to 2 sides to every story?
My listing is up 9/1/13 - and the cost to renew doubled. Guess I'm gonna be savings some money. And if they see this they can go ahead and delete it now if it makes them feel better - I resent the heavyhanded attitude there - also have to admit I have not been getting much work from that listing in the past year or so, so will not be any great loss for me.
Oh well. Hope he finds his inner peace with these tactics.

Re: My free listing has been deleted!
He deleted my listing because, in his words, he didn't believe I was a notary any longer. After I stopped doing loan signings, I changed my profile to reflect the same, and directed people to the fact that I was, and am still, available for general notary work.
My listing was a paid listing -- didn't get reimbursed either.

I have one for MO and one for KS and the KS one was changed and poorly edited, so I copied my MO one and revised it back to the way it once was.
I'm guessing this has something to do with the recorded message from Carmen I received by phone a few days ago that mentioned my Notes section wasn't "up to par."
Think I won't be paying for these when they need to be renewed next month. I am fed up with the way they handle that site and get enough business from this site.

Don't bother changing your password, unless you really want to - he still has access to all the profiles and will do what he wishes.

Was reading all of the comments on this thread and decided to check my profile. You guessed it: my notes section was changed! Not really for the better either. Also looked at the time of the "last edited" comment and noticed it was done just before they called me to remind me that my listing was due for renewal. I remember this because I was down in Florida with my family and I told the woman that I would fix it as soon as I returned to my office (my mother-in-law does not have wifi so I could not do much stuff online while I was there). Not really happy that they changed my notes, kind of seems like an invasion of sorts.

IMO it's always bad business when you forget that your
business IS your customers. Instead of catering to paying members, they DICTATE. I've heard he considers notaries fools who pay him bunches of money, and that this is always someone who will pay to list on that site. Maybe so, but more & more of the best notaries aren't listing there anymore. I've continued to list as a "necessary evil", but have only been renewing 6 mos. at a time. I do struggle every time I renew about paying a higher price there than other sites. NotaryRotary rocks!

Heard back from Carmen. Seems someone on NotRot
thought I was saying all this was her doing. NOT AT ALL! All I said was that I had left a message for her to call me. Which she did.
Carmen explained that the only person who can access the profiles is Jeremy or any person with the password. She does not have access to passwords.
I also learned that anyone certified through #'s site is supposed to have a lifetime listing ... regardless of whether free or paid. I've emailed Jeremy inquiring on this. Will update if I ever hear back from him. I'm also told he hasn't been responding to emails lately.

Re: Heard back from Carmen. Seems someone on NotRot
Back in the day when I advertised on 123 and read their how-to-write-a-profile suggestions, it was obvious Jeremy was a proponet of good writing. So, I suspect that some of the "fixes" he made might have been for the better.
Judging by many of the profiles I've read on NR, it's obvious many of us flunked English and compostion. They're full of misspellings, bad grammar, incomplete sentences, run-on sentences, verb-subject disagreement, duplication, etc. Some border on illiteracy, like many of the signing instructions we get from SSs.
So, I can see him going nuts reading similar ones on his site; and not being able to help himself (which he seems to do a lot lately), he went in and changed things to suit him.
But this is theory only.
|
Reply by Yoli/CA on 7/13/13 5:08pm Msg #476708
I can almost understand that theory. Can't condone it. But,
I do understand it. HOWEVER ... when someone is paying to list their own profile and comments, maybe that person prefers it to be personalized -- regardless of the misspellings, grammatical errors, etc. That's them.
Now, if Jeremy is so set on proofing and editing, maybe he should consider offering that additional service to his clients ... for a fee, of course. And, Jeremy, if you do, I'll accept my royalties for this idea.

Jeremy changed my profile a couple of months ago..He said it needed it! I thought it was fine the way it was..Since then I have decided NOT to renew with that site..I used to get a lot of calls but with Jeremys decison to "fix" my profile as he saw fit did not sit well with me!
Yesterday I received a call from Jeremy wanting to know if I wanted to join his blog? I was busy when he called and I thought he was rude and unprofessional when I asked if I could call him back in a few minutes? His reply was curt and short and he said he doesnt accept incoming phone calls..All I was supposed to anwer was yes or no to the interest in his blog..I said yes..In reality I have no interest in his blog..Im not sure what is going on there..but I am certain I will not be renewing again..I have had it..Not Rot is all I need!

Re: Heard back from Carmen. Seems someone on NotRot
Oops. Hit enter too soon. The above post was in response to the idea that he was correcting poor grammar or spelling in listings. He actually added several typos to my listing. He didn't change anything--just deleted letters, spaces, periods, etc. I'm baffled by this.
He should not be touching people's listings for any reason. I can see him sending an email alerting someone that their listing has writing errors and even that is over the top.
If perfect grammar and spelling is a condition of listing at his site then he should have people take a writing test before selling them a listing there. Changing people's listings is just disrespectful.

There are at least six errors or awkward sentences on the front page of the site. Some of the text may have been gleaned from the forum, but errors were left intact.
I don't understand the obsession with cleaning up profiles when the front door needs a good scrubbing.

Re: Heard back from Carmen. Seems someone on NotRot
I don't believe it's just about grammar. After reading this thread, I checked my profile and found it was also tweaked a little, even though I was very careful about spelling and grammar. What was changed was the order of the information and some of the content, presumably because he thought it was going to help my profile get noticed if the first few sentences were different. He made the first two words "Fluent Spanish". (Not a complete sentence, BTW. ) I do mention that but didn't choose to lead with it because that's not my target market in my area, just a bonus. The other wording changes weren't that big a deal and I haven't worried about changing it back - yet.
He may have good intentions, but it is presumptuous. Some of us put lots of thought into what we want to say in our profiles, how we want it said, and what info we want to lead with. I have to say, though, that after reading many profiles there, very often it seems like that's not the case...
