National Notary Association Dues
It is time for me to either pay my dues to the NNA or look at other options. What are some of your thoughts on the NNA.?

Search here for "NNA" or "XYZ"..
volumes have been written about them....far too much to repeat in this thread alone.

You have to do the research and figure out if it's worth it for you. Many here won't give them any money, under any circumstances. On the other side of the spectrum, some are members and very happy to promote them. There is at least one person here who was honored by them.
Then there are some us, such as myself, who have a membership but remain fairly neutral. I'm no cheerleader for them. In fact, I'm openly critical of them in many regards. But, I grudgingly renewed my membership earlier this year because a small, local title company that gives me a LOT of high paying business required not only their background check but membership as well. Since then, I think I've made some progress with them to prove that it's not necessary, but that's a work in progress. For now, the membership fee is a drop in the bucket compared to the work I get in return. I don't have much use for any of their services pr products, not do I attend any of their education classes. If you do the research, you'll understand why... they are notorious for giving out incorrect or misleading information.
That said, there are *some* things that they do that do help the industry... though just a few. I wish they would focus less on making money and focus more on proper education and training.

Same opinion as Marian
Mine are up for renewal also...but my "XYZ" background check is good for another year. I may just let my membership lapse until I'm due for another BC. Like Marian, the XYZ BC seems to keep doors open to a couple of my best TC clients, but other than that, I get nothing from them...agreeing that their information is often erroneous and their magazine seems to be more about advertisements and self promotion than of any valuable information.

I'm a member because some clients required it, but I am VERY critical of most of their positions and programs so it's a personal call for each of us...

I joined because one of my favorite companies
requires their BGC - and I've made the dues back tenfold already.
It's a business decision you have to make..

Re: I joined because one of my favorite companies
That goes for me too. Both First American Title and Fidelity and all its affiliates require NNA background check, and I do get as many calls from this site as I do from the numbers site. While I don't get so many calls from NR, the forum is very beneficial as well as the nos site for tracking deadbeat co's.

I am a member for the same reasons..companies want us to use their background screening etc. Its a small price to pay for more and continued work..
There are a few of us Not Rot members that have been honored by them and for me it was an honor and something I am very proud!
