Signing Central
I noticed that a lot of Signing companies have not been updated since 2003 or later. I find it hard to know if they are good since it has been over 10 years or more since someone commented on them.

Most of those are out of business.
You can waste your time calling or trying to email, or trying to see their web sites. There are several reasons that Harry keeps them in the database. The main one I recall is because so many pop open weeks later at a new location, or with a new name, yet we can research and get the real story from their past performance. It would be nice if there was an indication shown to let us know they are believed to be out of business. I've wasted a lot of time on many of those. As someone else indicated, if there have been no comments in years, then the company probably does not exist, but you'd not want to work with them if they do. I can't imagine one having no comments for 10 years and still being in business under the same name.

Re: Most of those are out of business.
Could they be listed with the owner's name - not just the dba - to make it easier to link?

Re: Most of those are out of business.
Hi All!
I sent a note to the General Inquiry section and then directly to Griffin Shoemaker as there was no reply after about six weeks to the original inquiry. I sent the following to Grif on 11MAY13 at 6:30 PM asking if I could possibly be of assistance. Please see below. I would simply LOVE to hear your comments/suggestions. I, too, have expended quite a bit of 'fruitless' time with the companies referred to above. Tnx
Good Morning Grif!
Thank you for your help in the past! Appreciate your support.
I regularly go through the listing of Title/Escrow Companies, Signing, Services, etc. on Notary Rotary. It is a GREAT marketing tool and I appreciate it and my Premier Membership benefits!
During my work on this database, I have noted that there are a large number of companies that continue to remain in the database, but that are out of business, phone numbers not working, email addresses not working, web sites no longer present, no updates for 2, 3, or more years, etc.
Would it be possible for you to color code the ones that are defunct? Or, possibly to place a symbol next to the company name to identify that they are no longer in business?
This would be quite helpful and I hope would not take a lot of effort/time to achieve. I am willing to give you a hand to provide a listing of the entries that appear to be no longer in business - if you'd like. Just let me know and I will create it for you to help achieve this feature, okay?
APPRECIATE EVERY ONE ON YOUR TEAM!

My rule of thumb is:
Avoid any company that is 'grayed' out, they are history.
Avoid any company with three stars or less.
Work for only 4 and 5 star companies.
Keeping in mind that not all 5 star companies are created equally. Some do a fervent job of rating themselves, so their star rating is not believable. They might pay lower fees and slower.
You can only go by experience and by reading about other's experiences with these companies in the forum.
That being said, it's not a bad idea to just google these companies that call you and see if they've been reported to the BBB, Ripoffreport.com, yelp and other online rating sites.

Cheryl - sure hope you're better today after that encounter yesterday!!
Could you say a bit more about the 'grayed' out feature? I just checked and all font colors are the same . . . Sorry to be remedial!!

Is this the faded blue that says 'Unavailable' beside the listing?
Btw, thanks for your help, Christine. Would be a BIG help to have an Out of Business icon

Unavailable 'usually' means there are no comments/ratings OR that the listing is really new.
