I believe some of the people attacking me and my company on this website might be schizophrenic.
Are we accused of being low ballers? NO! (excluding one clown)
Are we accused of being slow payers? Not by anyone!
Where’s the beef?
Some folks don’t like what I post in the forum. Big deal.
Some people do not like what I post on linkedin (even those that never once read anything I posted on linkedin). Big deal.
Some idiot gets their nose bent out of shape because I hold them individually in very low esteem. Big deal.
Perhaps all you people deserve nothing but dealing with lowballers and slow payers if you think it is okay to beat up on a service that the overwhelming majority of those that have worked with us think we are one of the best they have ever work with.
Chew on that people and this is the last post you will ever see from me in this forum, so blast away. I will never see it.

Enough already
I don’t post here anymore, and this obviously is not the thread I should choose to make an exception. However, I get really tired of seeing the piling on that happens in this forum with distressing frequency.
My observation is that whatever mudslinging occurs between Howard Blum and other members of this forum is quite mutual, and it often is not even a question of who started what: Both sides appear guilty of instigating and reinstigating the idiotic tit-for-tat that goes on.
I have personal relationships with some of those who elect to roundly condemn Howard, and I have a personal relationship with Blum and have done several quite satisfactory closings for him. I have counseled both sides that they look like schoolyard bullies, and they need to grow up.
What motivates me to jump into this mess, which Howard has quite aptly called a “toxic cesspool,” is the allegation that he is a misogynist because he has crossed swords with only women. Take a look back: Until James came up on his mud-splattered white horse salivating to curry favor and rescue all you damnsels (yes, I know that is misspelled) in distress, about the only people dumping on Blum were female. So, does that mean you are all misandrist?
Blum needs to stop posting here, reading here, PMing here, emailing anywhere and leave this forum to the signing agents it is supposed to serve. Cheryl, Julie, the rest of the pitchfork–wielding distaff mob and now James need to forget about Howard Blum, never work for him, give any messages from him the total lack of attention they deserve, and go about their business earning a living.
Everybody -- including the forum participants -- except those who actively <want> to pick a fight just to be fighting, would be a helluva lot better off.

Thank you Hugh. Many of us do not post here because we are afraid to ask a question or give an answer, because of the pitchforks. I became a new member in Sept 2012 and have read the forum daily and watched it become a bully forum. I am glad you are well, Hugh. I miss your posts.

Hopefully it will be some consolation that this forum parallels our business in that it's somewhat cyclical. The "bully" aspect is nothing new here. In fact, I think there are probably many here who would agree with me that it used to be a lot worse. Many "offenders" have come and gone over the years. Some of the current crop will fade away or decide to leave, but there always seems to be someone new. (A stroll through the archives of old posts will confirm that.)
I try to ignore that part of this place because I have long believed that the good here far outweighs the bad. The secret, imho, is to just develop a very thick skin, let the negative bounce off you and absorb whatever benefits you can find. I suspect that the many who read but rarely post have already figured that out...
BTW, I miss Hugh's posts, too! This place just isn't the same without you, Hugh. Please don't be a stranger!

Well said Hugh!!! All I want to know about companies is "not that they lowball" but rather if they pay you regardless of whatever fee you settled on. Like some of the others, I have posted on here and have felt the pitchfork of what I perceived as snide, arrogant remarks. Having not walked in each others shoes or situations who am I to imply that someone is beneath me by my comments to them. I got chastized because I used some Bible verses once in a post. Someone just quoted Theodore Roosevelt. I tend to quote the words of Jesus Christ from time to time. One good right that we still have in America is freedom of speech and a freedom to not listen to someone's freedom of speech. Do not mean to be anything but sincere here. The Bible does say that "a soft answer turns away wrath". Hurling nasty comments really does not, IMHO, accomplish anything positive. It might make the one who hurls them feel better at the time and it probably does hurt and/or anger the one they are directed at but it is my understanding from talking with counseling professionals about human behavior, that the root of anger is selfishness. Just saying. Now back to working on signings.

Well now Besides being my peers, they are mothers, wives and sisters (some I do call my sistah) and deserve the same respect as anybody else. Most of them probably could also knock both of you off your "old boy network rocking chair". The guys on here are also aware, they are just mellower than I am. We just call each other and talk and not post about it
Capt John Smith and Jim Jones also had wonderful quotes to offer up in their finest hours.........before poisoning everyone around them.

A bully is a bully, no matter how you look at it. It is illegal to bully in school. People are being prosecuted for it...happens all the time. We've had bullies on this board before who are no longer members. They got the boot!
I just won't tolerate it...attention seeking, power plays, obnoxious behavior has no place on this forum. I'm happy HB as decided he won't post here again, he says, we'll see as he likes a lot of attention, especially by being a bully.
I wonder how bullies survive in today's world! Not very well, since it is so politically and socially incorrect and inappropriate.

usual eloquence! I respect that you've chosen not to post on the forum anymore. I've noticed that the forum sometimes becomes a wasteland. There are those who choose not to follow the Rules & Guidelines set by Harry. Also, Harry has set it up that we are self-governing, and these inappropriate P/M's are not acceptable. I don't know what HB's problem is, and why he needs to get involved with people who have never worked for him. This is NOT about the reputation of his co., but his personal reputation, which he has established by this posts on this forum. I usually choose to ignore this kind of thing,

That goes for ALL of us. Can't separate the 2. To say we're "professionals" then "cut loose" with uncensored speech in a public venue is self-defeating. If You are not concerned about YOUR image, please remember that some of us ARE and don't want to mar the public's perception (including our vendors) of the good we do.

It's a merry-go-round
I find it ironic that the misogynist without peer on this board chose this occasion to leave his self-imposed exile to decry bad behavior accompanied by demeaning, stereoptypical characterizations of pitchfork wielding distaffers, etc. But that's nothing new. BTW: there are probably worse MCPs here than you, Hugh, (and you know I luv ya) they just don't let it all hang out.
I also find it ironic that the most cut-to-the chase-with-a-lethal-laser poster on this board chose to call 101 a bully and a hypocrite. But that's nothing new.
Where would we be without them?
Now I'm trying to figure out what my post says about me. (I'm sure someone will gladly fill me in).
HB aside, the nature of this board has always provided a venue for conflict just as much as it is an invaluable source of good. We don't have the time or opportunity to resolve hot issues completely, so one post can leave festering wounds or misunderstandings. Or incite huge conflict, accompanied by name-calling and denouncements from all sides. It's the nature of the beast.
Some people want to post anything they feel like, uncensored and uncut, and are shocked, insulted, offended, hurt when/if they get pushback. And then others view that pushback as bullying ... sometimes while offering nothing constructive of their own. Others post a simple question or statement and get pounded, deservedly or otherwise. Others jump in, defending, and then they get pounded. And around and around it goes, as JanetK pointed out. Some people hate conflict and cringe at every negative post; others thrive and want more. Others offer what they consider great insight or advice or warnings, while others don't see it that way and contend the forum is infected with toxic notaries. Who's to say when it should end? Well, everybody has a voice, here.
I think this latest uproar is just another round of the same. There will be more, with accompanying cries of "Enough Already" and "you're a bully, no, you're the bad guy," and quotes from TR, the Bible and probably Ghandi, next. I don't think anybody's going to change their views or personality much. We're all likely to to stick up for what we think is right even if it crashes headfirst into what someone else thinks is right. We might all use this as an opportunity to look inward, as well as resolve to cut others more slack.
But then, isn't that what we have been doing?
