Background check requests

Had a GREAT title co contact me back in Jan. and wanted me to have a background check ran thru Lexis Nexis as they wouldn't accept the NotRot one. Okay.. I have it ran and pay for it.
Fast forward to March, another title co contacts me and wants me to have a background check ran. I send them my Lexis Nexis AND NotRot background checks. They send me back an email and tell me they can't accept the Lexis Nexis because I didn't have it ran thru the NNA. REALLY???
Well, I guess I won't be doing any closings for them because I am NOT going to pay for 3 of them in less than a year, and am NOT going to pay the higher price thru the NNA.

Totally agree.

Have no problem with a background check. Have big problem with 'only this or that one' is good enough and being forced to join a for-profit organization in order to obtain yet another background check. Simply very wrong.

Most of us detest the NNA, yet nationally the big title companies (firstam and fidelity affiliates) will only recognize the NNA's. It encompasses DHS's screening as well. I'm not sure what Lexis Nexis does. I know that most law firms subscribe to Lexis Nexis and use this to background check all their clients and the people involved in lawsuits on the other side, including witnesses.

Not sure what NR's includes, we should find out, what do we get when we purchase these BGC's?

Interesting...I would also like to find out what company does BGC's that are accepted by everyony/anyone and how long?

Makes you wonder how much those title company's are invested in the NNA since that is the only BGC they will accept. By making you become a member of that organization and purchase their products doesn't that put money in the TC's pocket?

I got an email from Equifax Settlement Services that they were requiring a Background Check through Lexis Nexis back 6 mos ago. They said that if I didn't get it by a certain date that I would be taken off their list. I had done quite a few closing for them. Even though they had the background check through NNA. I refused. They have not used me since that deadline. I was ok with that, I am busy. Fast forward, this week I got an email from them and a phone call stating they have dropped that requirement and want to reinstate me. Interesting.

I thought that would happen, I got the same word when I inquired. Back in their saddle again.

The NNA BGC is good for two years, along with their "membership". I get their magazines monthly and e-newsletter. I'm invited to their Austin ho-down, along with everyone else who will spring for air/hotel $$ and registration fee to attend. There are no discounts for being a member really. Everything is more than with NR. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and pay extra, like for BGC.

And, don't forget, some lenders will verify notary's commission and BG at funding, to make sure we're still legal, no convictions, no revocation or suspension of commission. Not sure about arrests, so be good everyone!

I will not bite the bullet and give that organization a dime for their coffers. IMHO, they have single handedly worked to increase the costs and reduce the income of every NSA's while lining their pockets with NSA's hard earned money. I haven't forgotten their recommended fee schedule and in fact still have that email. Where do you think the low-baller's got there fee base from in the first place?

I'll never understand why people support an organization that is so willing to put a knife in their back, while filling their coffers at your expense.

BTW, Nexus/Lexus lists arrests, don't know about NNA's never used them and never will.

I don't care what there fee schedule is. I only care about mine. I treat that the same way I did their required background check. I refuse.

Me either. We are dealing with two issues here. One some company you sigh-up with to get work and someone looking for a notary on NR directory. All of the people I work for who call me "preferred notary or go to guy (yuk)" have never had me do anything but send them a W-9, COPY of bond, insurance and commission. I do not complete "work agreements" making me liable for the sky falling.
