Drum unit for Brother 5470
The display on printer states replace drum unit soon. Does anyone know approximately how many pages I can print before it must be replaced? If it is like the toner, it just stops printing when it needs to be replaced. I hate to be in the middle of printing and have to stop and replace the drum. I have the replacement drum unit but want to get as much as possible out of the present drum unit.

FWIW, I have a 5240 & use after-market (remanufactured or other brand) replacement for drums & toner. I think under normal circumstances the printer will stop at a certain point. You can extend that issue by sliding the corona wire (located at the back of the drum unit) back & forth for about 30 times. That cleans the wire & does extend the drum life. My replacements don't have the built in chip that stops the printing, so I have to watch when the printing starts to get too light, and replace the drum only when I have to.

I have a 5370 and my drum replacement light has been on for about a month. No issues with print quality and it hasnt stopped printing. The authorized brother guy i spoke to said all I need to do is just reset the drum and the light will go away...mine is an aftermarket compatible one.

From my own personal experience I have been able to keep printing with the Drum Unit End light on for several months. When the drum unit is kaput print becomes SO faded it will be obvious. I had one on back up too but I was able to hang onto it a good while longer before I had to switch it out.

Thanks, I am going to go with it until print quality starts to fade.
