Precise Signing in MD - Shannon Smoot
Thank you, thank you, thank you NotRot family!
Received call this morning from Shannon for a RESPA less than 10 miles away for tomorrow. She sounded very nasally and was difficult to understand. Don't know if she has a cold or this is just her.
I accepted. She proceeded to rush through particulars and said they pay $60. I told her my base edoc fee is $125. She ho-hummed and said I didn't have to print. Borrower already has docs. Okay, the lowest I can do is $100. She agrees. Tell her to send me confirmation with fee and all contact info for her and borrower. I get confirmation and something keeps nagging at me. I go to NotRot SC and search company name. Nothing. Do a search on company - few comments, not much. Do a search on her name. BINGO! TERRIBLE reviews.
Quickly email her and turn signing back and tell her why. Her immediate response: "I cant imagine there are poor reviews. I always pay. But thats fine I will get a new notary"

And so many new SS's. Be careful, fellow and new notaries. Don't give ANY vital information to any company until u have done your due diligence. One company in particular comes to mind that was soliciting on LI, would not answer any questions put forth about her new company and at that point in time was not operating with a business license. Business was set up in her home. Notaries were signing up in droves.

A little follow-up ...
After posting here, I thought it only fair to notify the loan officer involved.
So, I emailed him and gently suggested he research the name Shannon Smoot on Notary Rotary and advised him I'd turned back that signing due to terrible reviews here. He responded asking if I work with Global Notary. My response to him was no, also due to poor reviews.
Wonder if that company will listen and learn or continue doing business with disreputable SS's .....??
