Signing Central rating system - 5 * on low * companies

While the scheduler was talking I was looking them up. Just so happens I was already on this site.

Before I could even say "no thank you, your rating on Notary Rotary is..." she offered me $65 for a signing in 32 minutes. (Let that sink in.)

After taxes and expenses (the 52% we can expect) I would have made a whopping $32.80.

She was so professional, too. When I politely informed her I could not accommodate the fee, without even hearing my fee, she loudly hung up on me.

Now, why do they even have a 2* rating.
On SC they have 1 star for about five comments and then a 5*. Then five more 1* and then another 5*.
What a joke the rating system is becoming.
You guys are not fooling anyone.

Please think before you post a rating. You need to have a history with a company to give them a 5* rating. At least six months I would say. Don’t even give them a 5* if they pay quickly and are nice, without a working history. Wait a bit and see what a history with them is like. Do you not feel used?

At this point, even if you comment that you have a history with them and slam on 4* or 5* we won’t believe it on these low * companies.

5* raters on low * companies... if they do not pay you in 3 month or in any other way show they are deadbeats, please go on there and change your comments about them. You can do that as someone described today. Doing them rating-favors hurts the accuracy of the ratings. Unless of course you work for them or are them.

I am going to assume the above from now on without further evidence to the contrary. If someone gives a 5* rating to a low-star company I am going to assume you either work for them or own them. Your comments will be completely discounted.

Your 5* rating of this company brought them up from a 1* to a 2*. Didn't help much but over time it is a mockery. Of course, this company's behavior and the fee offer revealed who they were. But, if someone believed your 5* (as if the company had turned around for the better) and if the money offer had been good, someone might have taken it and then never received their pay. Do they send the Thank You to your home or office address?

Stop skewing ratings. That is not what SC is there for.

I think this is good advice. These isolated (stick out in the middle) 5-stars are immediately suspect.
And remember: Don't accept Or turn down a job based on ratings only (it took me only a "minute" to realized how skewed these were).

It took me awhile to understand what notaries were doing all this fuss about (like a well-meaning notary who advised me several months back "not to mention on the forum that I'd worked for a deadbeat co." - that in the opinion of fellow notaries should be "out of business.")

A company should be "out of business" because of a (faulty) rating system?? I just couldn't see the logic. Then, it became clearer after a few months on here that the Reputation and the Rating aren't always in sync. Yes, companies known for a history of no-pay, dishonest practices (that's what it is when you cheat someone out of his/her earned compensation) should NOT remain in business.

SS needs more than one good isolated experience to earn a high (over 3 star) rating. Why a company wouldn't work to restore good faith and improve its reputation is beyond me.
