What are they thinking?
So I accepted a signing for $125. Confirmation comes in as $40. Immediately responded that is not what we agreed upon. Update to the $125 or find someone else. They just reassigned it to a another notary. HILARIOUS!!! They were the ones who said the fee was $125. Hmm wonder if that was what they are getting from this Title company and want to pay peanuts.
Another one today, accepted assignment and verbally agreed upon a fee then get email confirmation that says $75. WTH!!! Immediately responded to change fee to what we agreed upon. They immediately updated fee.
Sheesh!!!

Can someone please answer this question for me. Is a Confirmation of fee's to be paid (as long as it is the agreed upon amount) along with the confirmation that you will except the appt. a legal and binding contract with the hireing party. Do we need to get them to also include that it will be paid to us within a certain amount of time like Net 30 for example. Do we have to get all this in writing? All feedback is welcome.

Business law 101 says what a contract is an agreement between two or more people who agree to the terms and conditions. All terms and conditions concerning the transaction should be in writing. A verbal agreement following the written agreement may not be provable if you take someone to court, unless there are willing witnesses to prove that was the agreement. Otherwise, you have a he said, she said issue and someone will lose.
I suggest taking a business law course at the local community college.

Are they thinking you won't notice the change on the confirmation???? I don't know.
Thank you though for your post. I rarely check the fee amount on the confirmation (in the midst of being busy at the time). I have always found it would be correct, post closing. BUT, after reading your post, I will be checking a little bit closer from now on.
Thanks.

Maybe they think I wont notice BUT you cant slide that past me. Soon as a confirmation comes over there is a process I go through. I scan to make sure amount is there, BO information, time/date & location. I transfer to my calendar then my excel spreadsheet. Then later I transfer into my accounting software. Its easier to correct an issue upfront vs after the closing. I dont want to be stuck fighting for a fee change well after the fact. Plus its a quick 1 sec email straight from my iphone.

My guess is that they use some sort of template to send out confirmations and they forget to change it. If so, it gives you a window into what some other notaries are willing to work for. Although it could also be that the previous time they used that template was to have someone go get one signature. Who can say for sure... Could be any or all of those possibilities and more.
