Wow...I am just dumbfounded...
Just got a call from someone identifying himself as "Phil" - has a signing if I'm available - and if I'm not he fully understands - for Monday between 1:00 and 1:30 - is this something you'd be interested in?
So, I ask "first of all, who are you and what company do you represent?"
He answers "Well, my name is Phil and I represent <mumble> and we're a law firm out of Kansas City" - (find out by google it's OCM Financial Group"
He continues "and we have a signing for a settlement"
I say "Okay, what kind of signing is this? Is it a debt settlement? Is it a structured settlement?"
He answers "You know..never mind - I'm just going to call someone else" and hangs up on me.
Well, pardon my a** for wanting specific information about who's calling me and what kind of assignment this is!!
Good grief.

LOL...you asked the right questions...no thank you!
Structured settlements seem to be reluctant to pay notaries...some of them do.

Re: Wow...too bad, they pay well and fast
Too bad, that it started and ended on the wrong foot. They deal with settlements, medical records, legal agreements, etc. Checks comes from a law firm, they pay in 10 days. I have done 3 different jobs with them ranging from $35- $125. I hope they call more!

Yes, it was a shame. I couldn't believe he decided to
call another notary simply because I asked who he was, what company he was calling from and what kind of settlement signing it was. All he told me at first was Phil
Maybe something irritated him before he called me - like having to make this call at 6:00 on a Saturday night?

Linda, I think this "Phil" quickly realized that you're a smart lady and a tough cookie who will easily confront any if his baloney and shananigans - LOL!

Well, I'll be on my toes for Phil, and hopefully we can communicate better and more clearly!

Yeah, you and me both...but remember..there's an
awful lot of "Phil"s out there in this country - I happen to have a cousin-in-law named "Phil" - so if "Phil" calls me again and says "Hi, it's Phil, and I have a signing in <your city> Monday, can you do it" - I'm STILL gonna ask questions!!

OCM deals with medical claims.
I had problems getting paid from them. I was told their bookkeeper suddenly quit & they did not have the password to her email account to retrieve their invoices so that's why they didn't pay me as promised. It took me an additional 3 weeks to actually get paid from them. Phil got an nasty when I turned down additional requests from them because I wasn't paid for the first job.

I'm having a little bit of a deja vu experience here... Not sure if the guy was "Phil", but it might have been. Started asking the usual questions, at first mostly just asking him to repeat himself because I couldn't understand what he was saying and didn't know who he was. Got the same response. I felt like I had just dodged a bullet. Maybe he looks for people who don't know enough to ask questions and are just so excited to hear "we have a signing..." His loss - and thankfully not mine!
