You CAN have an affect on the laws.
Earlier BrendaTX posted information on a bill which could have impacted notaries acting as signing agents in Oklahoma. Thanks to her making me aware, I was able to contact my friend who is a State Representative, and voiced my concerns. Here is his response:
Karen,
I wanted to update on the HB 1884 you had concerns with. The author of the bill has struck the title meaning that it cannot become law unless it is amended to have the title placed back on the bill. He stated he wants to make sure that the bill does not harm notaries and will amend the bill in the Senate.
The bill passed by a vote of 80 Yes and 11 No. I voted against the bill as I promised and I have personally talked to the author to confirm that when the bill comes back from the Senate he will remove language which is harmful to notaries.
God bless,

I'm posting this here because too often individuals feel powerless to change circumstances. However, unless the law makers are made aware of potential unintended consequences, they have no idea. Although this was passed by a majority, the writer of the bill will not move it forward until it addresses our concerns. I believe this would have happened no matter what congressperson was contacted, if they care at all about their constituents.
All I'm saying is, speak up!

Did you happen to notice that you had no right to share his response with the rest of us?

Yes, Mike, I saw that. It's standard legalese formatted at the bottom of most government or attorney email messages. Since this was addressed to me in response to a public issue, I don't feel I've done any harm. However, I should probably not have included that paragraph with the post.
