You wouldn't believe ...

Was contacted yesterday by one of the last two SSs I work with for a job tonight. Said yes, if they could add $15 to normal fee cos it was really far away. OK, no problem. Kept waiting for docs, nothing shows. Meanwhile, I'm turning down calls from the TCs I work with to keep this time slot open.
So I finally e-mail midafternoon, asking if job is still on? Just a few minutes later I get a call from a notary in that area, saying this very SS had given him my number as a referral. Start chatting with this notary only to discover that they had just called him for a job in the same town for the same day at the same time. AMAZING. WHAT A COINCIDENCE!! What are the odds?

Then, a few minutes later I get a response from SS to my e-mail saying signing's "canceled."

Hmm - all of this to save a lousy $15?? And to think I lost jobs cos of them. And the final insult is that they used me to vouch for them with this other notary while screwing me over. And I thought they were one of the good guys. Looks like I work for just one SS now. LOL! What a business!

Oh, yes, I would ...

One of the odd things about being in a low-saturation area is that often I am my own competition. Get a call for a signing, my fee is accepted, order is sent. Hours later, another call from another co. for the same day/time/town. I ask actual signing location and, yep, it's already mine. But somebody is still shopping around. I've even been cancelled by one SS, but have it with another...probably because the TC is paying one SS less than another. Ah, the loyalty--not to mention the honesty-- in all facets of this business is...non-existant.

I know the feeling. The best suggestion

I have for you and the others is to continue to seek out new business, preferrably directly with the TCs.

Re: Are you still going to do business with them?

Goldgirl says she isn't. However, I still do as it doesn't happen often and, more important, it's a very long list and includes a lot of 4 & 5 star outfits...both SS & TC. And it's nothing personal--just business.
