Credit Repair Predators~ID Fraud
The only way to have good credit is to keep it that way. You can't repair bad credit. When people offer to help you repair your credit score for upfront money, run like hell. It's a scam. So when I hear about people offering to help you repair your credit for a fee, I go crazy.
Once upon a time, during desert storm, I hit thin ice. Lost my job, couldn't find a one, fell behind. My car was repossessed. I vowed never to be in that position again, ever. My credit score was the lowest ever. It's now the highest it's ever been. I work on it to keep it that way.
No one can raise your credit score but you. Paying your credit cards on time, keeping the balances low (below 1/3 of credit limits), having auto pay on your mortgage, little things keep your credit score high. BTW, did you know that if your credit score is low, your auto insurance and homeowners insurance rates are affected? So is your ability to get hired in some jobs. So far, credit scores to not affect our ability to become notaries. Shoot, you can be convicted of ID fraud and financial fraud and become a notary these days after your criminal record is expunged. ASTOUNDING...
Don't go around opening up frill cards, like Kohls, Pottery Barn, Macys, just to get discounts on purchases. Prevent ID fraud by freezing your credit. It's amazing how you're talking to someone on the telephone about lowering your mortgage interest rate and they are looking at your credit report without your authorization. That's an inquiry. Inquiries tank your credit score.
Personally, I wouldn't hire anyone to work for me, given the work I do, to clean my house, do my yard work, wash my car, or remodel my house, without a background check. There are too many people out there with a dark past, predators, who have stinky credit, can't even get a credit card or open a checking account on their own, running signing services, who could really hurt you.
Err on the side of caution. It is Frank Abnagale who recommends you freeze your credit as the only way to prevent ID fraud because he was the master of ID fraud at 17 years of age. His life was the basis of TO CATCH A THIEF. He is now a world famous authority on ID fraud and forgery and speaks to major corporations and government agencies on how to prevent it.
We all know that anyone who purports they can modify your loan for money upfront is operating illegally. Only lenders can modify the terms of the loan, no middlemen. It is financial fraud.
In my own city, the woman who headed up the City's parking enforcement agency was able to embezzle almost $1 million from the City's police department funds. She's sitting in jail. When she gets out, she has to repay that money to the City. I wonder if she'll open up a signing service.

So you have allowed every TC/SS you work for to pull
a background/credit check on you? Not that you have furnished one to them, because who is to say what you or anyone furnishes is truthful and forthcoming?
You use as your example the parking enforcement lady, I bet up until the day she got convicted, her background check was spotless. Which gives meaning to what the mutual fund sales people say: Past performance is not indicative of future performance.
I don't own, nor work as an employee for a signing service. However; looking at some of your past postings and claims I wouldn't be surprised if your friendly postman (who by the way is not background checked very often) brings you some tidings from one of these outfits.

Great post! The logical addendum to this is also to not work for companies that claim to do credit repair. A few years back, after the "mortgage meltdown", there seemed to be a spate of companies (mostly claiming to be attorneys) promoting that so-called service. That may have been outlawed in California, but regardless, I wouldn't accept work from any of those guys. That includes those offering debt-consolidation services. I might be confusing the two, but regardless, they're still preying on people when they're down and don't have any extra money to be spending on these questionable services.
Cheryl, your history shows that bad credit CAN be repaired, but it does take time and I guess the point is that there are no magic bullets. And as stated above, "No one can raise your credit score but you."
