Can not confirm with Borrowers
Has anyone dealt with not being able to contact the borrowers at the phone number provided to confirm appointment?-I contacted title-they only have one number, same number I have been calling for days to no avail... I do not want to drive all the way to the borrowers home only to have them not be there not want to sign etc..it is quite a drive away from where I am at..thinking of turning the signing back to title...title cant even get a hold of borrowers....so frustrating because this has never happened before....

Generally, when this happens, I ask the hiring party if they will guarantee in writing that I will be paid full fee even if borrowers are not there. If no, I would turn it back. Title usually says ok. In those instances, I have never had the borrower not be there. They were expecting me. I might also try the LO. sometimes the phone numbers are transposed.

I have found different phone numbers on the Loan Application. If that doesn't work you might try Google.

Do the job - but only if you get in writing from title
that you will be paid $xx amount for time, mileage and printing in the event borrowers are not there - they may well be away and someone forgot to tell title - I've had that happen.
In this day of everyone seeming to have to fight to get paid, unless it's a good, established company with me that I trust, I'd ask for that payment up front with the balance due at funding.

I will often text them and they will respond, another thing
A lot of people have numbers they use (like google voice for example) which "migrates" to their actual number. That way they don't have to give out their REAL number. A lot of old people LOL don't think about our new hi-tech society and it gadgets.

Agree w/Shoshana...and get it in writing.
If they won't agree, I'd turn it back. So far, all have agreed.

Re: Linda, did you get out of bed on the wrong side this AM?
Yes, stayed up too late watching the WS (go Cards). LOL
I shouldn't have said that (shame on me).
But, I can't get a hold of the borrowers. I have the wrong phone #. Somebody help me. What do I do? I can't function or think for myself. I am a business but have no idea what to do. Someone help, help. Get a grip folks. Has happens to me/all of us from time to time. I/we make a decision on how to handle it and move on. Personally, I have done it all. Gone and borrowers were there, gone and borrowers not there, not gone and wish I would have, not gone and glad I didn't. The outcome is not going to be the same every time. That's the only thing I'm sure of. LOL

So, she's probably a newbie. I remember something I did when I was a newbie. It's so stupid, so I won't post it here. I am 11 years now. Perhaps i may soon retire. It's been a long time.

Uh bit a newbie didn't have wrong number and it looks to me Linda just just likes to pounce on everyone whenever she can . If you don't have anything intelligent or decent to contribute to a post then keep your trap shut.

Your question was stupid, and this response ...
... was arrogance personified.
Notary Rotary has 40,000 members. Thousands of those, Linda included, have more than a decade of experience and have performed thousands upon thousands of closings. And you ask if anyone has ever not been able to contact a borrower?
In the shut-trap department, you need to direct your comments 180 degrees in the opposite direction.
And listen more respectfully to your professional betters.

It just goes to show how unprofessional Laurily is....
She doesn't know that TCs and signing services read this board. I can't believe her post to Linda. That was really nasty.

So was this one, IMHO.
Sorry, Mr. Hugh, callin' it like I see it.
I'm REALLY trying to be respectful of my "professional betters." (IF ONLY they'd make it a little easier for me and some others here!)

Laurily,
You're going to have to add some "whine and cheese" to your posts from now on (it'll make it go down easier . . . like just a spoonful of sugar!)

Re: There is a lot of good advice on NR
You just have to let the nasty ones bounce off. As to your question (a valid one), I would not even print the docs much less drive (especially if it's a long one) without BO confirmation unless you can get the SS to guarantee you at least 60% of the full signing fee, and that depends if 60% of the fee is sufficient to cover costs and time. Hope this helps.

Re: That's just it - there WAS no nasty here...her comment
Thanks everyone.
My comment was also uncalled for and I do apologize. I usually keep my trap shut, but just couldn't help it. LOL Yes, we were all new at one time, I get that.
A long time ago someone posted a scenario using a pizza parlor as an example. Goes something like this: I think I'll open up a pizza parlor. I think I'll go ask the one across the street for advice. I'll ask them how to make the dough, the sauce, where do I buy the ingredients, who are your customers, how much does it cost for the ingredients, how much do I sell the pizzas for, etc etc etc.
Get the picture Laurily?? Oh, and I'm really not this horrible person. Maybe some of us have been doing this too long.

***As to your question (a valid one)***
I repeat, the question was stupid. She didn't ask, "What would you do if..." She asked if it had ever happened to anyone. There are such things as dumb questions, and under the circumstances, that was one of them.

Yes, I've had this happen. Sometimes, I'd leave several messages for the borrowers and they wouldn't return my calls. But when I went to the signing, they were eagerly awaiting my arrival. Some borrowers are just like that. They do receive your message - they just don't bother to acknowledge it.
If you decide to go to the signing, get in writing from the hiring party that if the borrowers are a no-show, you will be paid a trip/print fee. Some notaries require full fee for a no-show. It's up to you. You can also try to text the borrowers if their contact number is a cell number and see if they respond. Don't be frustrated by this - understand it's just the way some borrowers are. Again, get in writing from the hiring party that you will be paid either a full-fee or trip/print fee (whichever you require) if the borrowers are a no-show.

Laurily, when I am unable to speak with the borrower, I will leave a message something like this:
I am your Notary Signing Agent for suchandsuchadate/time, I will see you at suchandsuchaplace with your documents for execution by soandso, I will also require a photocopy of your DLs on one sheet of paper, preferably enlargened if possible, to be returned with your signed documents to title/escrow.
Will you kindly acknowledge my call so that I know you are expecting me? Thank you. My phone number is xxxxxxxx, or you may feel free to text me to confirm this time and place are still valid. If you need to change the date/time/place, please let me know ASAP, as I have a busy calendar and I know you're busy too. Thank you again, my phone number is xxxxxxxx.
I let them to know they need to confirm with me.
Hope this helps you in your notary travels. Sometimes people are out of town. I also text people if I have their cell phone. Texting is fairly commonplace these days, especially among working professionals, and people with children/teens. As I arise early, I will also reconfirm the same day as the signing.
Keep a positive outlook...people on this forum really don't mean to be rude or insulting. The written word comes across sometimes as snide, but mostly we're a positive, resourceful, supportive group. As a newbie, you need to be gentle too.

If I get an assignment and the phone number is wrong, I look them up in the phone book (I have the address) and if they are there, then I call them AND I inform the SS and/or Title of the number.
