Dejavu and Prevailing SS Biz Model

It is nothing new, and seems to be a replay of 2008 signing environment. Found this on ripoffreport.com.

Here's one statement a SS made to an unpaid notary. Yet this company stayed in business until 2012.

I was contacted by XYZ Signing Service to conduct a loan signing on October 3, 2008. As of 01/06/09, I have yet to be paid.

I have made numerous phone calls and emails and per *the owner),"If you feel the need to go through the legal system, let me speak from experience. By the time you ARE paid by me, if you contact legal counsel you will have only wasted time and money. Trust me, I know!"

XYZ Signing Services advertise on their website that they are members of the following assciations: MBA (Mortgage Bankers Association), NHEMA (National Home Equity Mortgage Association), ALTA (American Land Title Association), FLTA (Florida Land Title Association), and PLTA (Pennsylvania Land Title Association). I called all of the named associations and I was informed that they are not members of any of the associations.

The Truth
Tampa, Florida
U.S.A.

This trend of not paying notaries is not going to disappear. It's the hottest scam going right now. It's bigger than the Nigerian scams. The best way to avoid is to only work for 4 and 5 star companies.

BTW, these SS owners are still around with a new label, new company, same game. These people will never give up. The stakes are too high.

Wouldn't it be better if they couldn't get any one to work for them?

I certainly appreciate your continuing warnings about ss,

however, I think we need to remember that there are still plenty of ss that are reputable & pay in a timely manner. Not all ss are crooks. I know I wouldn't have been in this biz without them, and
have worked for the best & the worst in the biz through the years. If we are diligent in our efforts, the bad guys disappear because no one takes work from them. That's where our power lies, IMO.

Re: I certainly appreciate your continuing warnings about ss,

Absolutely, Marilynn, but you have to admit, because of all the newbies out there, who have no history as we do, it's important to know who the bad guys are. We all know who the good guys are.

The decline of business has resulted in downsizing, shifting and closing of doors. I think we're going to see more of it.

I in no way mean disrespect to the companies I have successfully served for 12 years. Not intended for you guys.

If notaries give up because of responses like that they shouldn't be in this business.

Yes, similar to: We didn't get paid so we can't pay you. Bunch of BS. Or,

We have to file Bankruptcy. (NOT!)

Or, simply, there is no response, they just disappear under a rock, only to resurface, sooner or later, because the scam was just to monetarily rewarding for the SS.

Is there any way to get money from a company that has gone bankrupt? Is it worth trying to pursue the owner? The reason I ask is because East West Settlement Services owes me a good chunk of money. I believed Lori Segal when she said I would always be paid by her. Well, I haven't been. I've sent emails and made calls, but all are ignored. I understand she went through a tough time, but we are all going through tough times now.

If BK has truly been filed by the company you'd receive

a notice - and instructions on filing your Proof of Claim.

Keep in mind - BK's can take a couple years depending on circumstances and, in the end, you end up with pennies on the dollar if you're lucky - you're an unsecured creditor so at the bottom of the list to be paid.

I think most of these defunct companies will have more problems with the FBI and the FTB/IRS than with unpaid notaries. Especially those who banked hundreds of thousands of dollars.

This is one of the ways they are getting new notaries:

Yikes!!!

I'd sure like to know who it is that's conducting those classes and placing those ads! Anyone have any idea? If I had nothing better to do, I'd be tempted to make some inquiries just to find out. This is the part that always gets me:

"Interest rates are at record lows and there is an extremely high demand for qualified loan signing notaries."

Yeah, right! What they're not telling them is that the demand is for people who want to work at rates that will cost them money, not make them money. Unfortunately, to someone who's never been a notary and who knows nothing about this industry and the current environment, that could sound very attractive. And, of course, they're hardly likely to be referred here to find out the real scoop of what is going on...

Very sad.

HVR Notaries management is trying to resolve this problem as soon as possible. We totally understand your frustration when calls are not being returned or for late payments. We stopped taking orders from clients until we fix this. We will contact everyone within next week in regards compensation. There is a lot of false and inaccurate information on this blogs but we can assure you that we will not hide and we will do the right and ethical thing! No one is collecting money to get richer or walking away like other companies have. We will make things right but we ask to give us time. Also Mark Wills and JJ have no relationship with HVR nor does HVR have something to do with the classes mentioned above. Thank you and we apologize for the late response.
