Does NY State require venues on certificates?
I had two documents to notarize today, one drawn up by a New York attorney, another was a "New York State Estate Tax Domicile Affidavit" (form ET-141). Neither had a place for the venue. I added the venue to comply with my state notary manual, but I wonder if New York even requires a venue?

I'm curious, too. Is there any state that DOESN'T require
venue?

Connecticut is interesting. I understand that notaries there still give the county and state for the venue, but while I was living there CT did away with county government. So the county being mentioned in the venue is not a unit of government, just a geographic area.

Yes, NY requires the notary block to read: State of New York County of _______
The county is where to notary act is performed, not the county that the notary's signature is recorded.

Starting to wonder about docs in general
I can't even begin to count the docs I have come across that have no venue on them. KS and MO require a venue, and as far as I know everywhere does, even Indian territory where I can't recall what you put but it isn't State of and County of. Kind of tired of having to squish them in below the signature lines and above the Jurat or Ack wording. Ugh.

Re: Starting to wonder about docs in general
I got so tired of it that I had a venue stamp made.
Don't care if they require a venue or not, Ohio does, so it goes on or I don't notarize it...
