Full notary fee for cancelled loan.

A new-to-me company called me for a signing scheduled for 9/21/13. We agreed on a notary fee. This was for split signing. I printed 2 sets of docs, traveled to borrower, presented package and had everything signed and initialed as required. Hiring company sent me a shipping label for next notary to have non-borrowing spouse sign his portion and docs were forwarded for a timely 2nd phase of signing.

Well, seems that somewhere in the interim, that nbs decided he didn't want to sign. Today, I receive a check for $35 rather than $125 with no explanation. Online, I looked up recorded deeds from that date forward and nothing appears.

I sent the following email to the hiring entity:
<<Received check #147576 today in the amount of $35.00. My agreed-to fee was $125.00. Why the discrepancy? I printed, traveled to signing at the appointed time, all docs were signed as required and I forwarded document package to next notary as instructed on provided shipping label.

In other words, I kept my part of the agreement and performed my duties as instructed and required. Why was I not paid as agreed?

Thanks!>>

Their response:
<<We looked into the issue and the 2nd part was not billed out correctly on our side. It has since been corrected and the will released this Wednesday. Sorry for the delay.>>

Morale of the story: Stick up for yourself. You've worked hard and earned your pay.

Yoli, great little lesson here. I had a similar situation regarding a split signing. After five weeks of going nowhere, I contacted the ceo of the title co. Yep, that's right the man(or woman) at the top about how dissatisfied I was with his company. Got a check for the full fee in two days.

Notaries don't let people treat you like crap, stand up for your self worth!

I was just fighting a pay discrepancy too. My check was shortened, so I wrote the Signing Agency, and was told that I left out some documents and that delayed funding and they had to pay extra for fed ex. I then asked the Agency what documents were left out. I received an email saying that the borrower didn't sign one document. I then wrote back stating that I was told that "some" documents weren't signed and this was one document that wasn't a critical document, if even an original document. I told the company I would contact the borrower because I take pride in my work. I then got an email back, with the documents that were left out. Now going to compare if I even had them to begin with. I did my job, and check documents many many times. Stick up for yourself, is right.

Wow - not a small shortage.

Wonder if $35 was meant for notary #2!
