How many days for the commission after passing notary exam
My friend recently passed her Notary test in California. Does anyone know how long it takes nowadays for the commission to arrive in the mail ( after the results are made known electronically) Will appreciate input. Thanks

It varies greatly. Passing the exam is only one of the many items that need to be done. After passin gthe exam you have to get fingerprinted and go throughthe background check. Those results need to be back to the Sec of State's office and waiting in your file when your file come sup for review.
They review files based on the exam date.
If everything is done and in place when the file comes up for review, then they'll issue the commisison that day. If not...they'll send a letter and go from there.
They seem to be REALLY ahead right now... likely because the number of applications is way down.
As of today they're processing files for people who took the exam on 9/28/2013. That's pretty crazy, actually.
You can alwasy chek here: http://www.sos.ca.gov/business/notary/processing-times.htm
Again, though... that doesn't guarantee a commission will be issued then... each file and application is different and they may request more information or require you to re-do your fingerprints... any number of problems can pop up.
At any rate, it's wise to take the exam and get everything done at least 4-6 months before you need the commission issued. Renewing notaries should start, IMO, 12 months in advance so everything is there and collecting dust when the renewal file is reviewed.

It took 10 weeks from the time I took the exam to receive my commission. At that time I was told CA SOS was receiving 5,000 applications per month!

P.S. This was a year ago, so things may have changed since then.

Mine took a total of 5 weeks - test to stamp. I did the Live Scan the day after I saw that I passed the test. I got the bond done in one day; I just drove to the insurance company's office, then took the bond right to the recorder's office.
