National Notary Day
I'm preparing for a Notary Day celebration next month and am trying to gather as much information as possible. If you have any information: links, pics, correspondence, etc., on this topics, please send it my way. I have found some information on the world wide web, but something tells me there's more out there.
Thank you.

Suggestions for HI-TEK Bag items.
I had a Chase loan signing, refi, for a couple last night. There was very little light over their dining room table. I could not read the numbers on the HUD settlement statement. I immediately thought, these numbers get smaller and smaller all the time, good grief. It reminded me that I need to get a magnifying glass with a light. I found them on overstock.com for under $10. I ordered one.
With the time change, it's darker earlier now. This situation will prevail, as have you noticed, the signing table is usually the dining room table and "mood" lighting is the norm?

101Live--don't get me started on @@!! table lighting...
you are soooo right! I found an around the neck set of small led's (on order from ABC Distrib.) and can hardly wait. The drawback w/ the lit magnifier is that the signers will want to pass it around. Last week, even after the husb put 3 extra bulbs in the chandelier, in daylight, the wife took 3 tries to get her signature on the 1003 line w/ the X. So, that won't help those who are too vain to get the specs on, but it will help me determine where to point my finger on the page for them. (I had pointed to the correct line w/pencil all 3 times.) Yes, there was a copy for them, but it was on letter so I did not substitute the page. I apologize for hijacking this thread, but wanted to spread the info about the lighting thingy.

A while back when the CPA exam was taken on paper, not on a computer at a testing center, one location used skylights without an electrical overhead lights. Experienced test takers brought flashlights, headlights, pens with a flashlight built in. Those exam takers without experience did not (if he or she failed the exam, he or she did the next time). I have a battery powered headlight I carry in the car when it is dark and I would not hesitate to use it if there was not enough light for me to see the documents.

More out there ... where?
What exactly are you looking for?
If you are preparing for a Notary Day celebration I'm going to take a leap and assume that you have a venue and all the promotional stuff that goes along with that.

My fellow notary and namesake, try notarypublicday.com - a site set up by ASN (Am Society of Notaries)*. I looked into doing an event last year but it requires a whole lot of planning and sponsorship; it's a huge undertaking. Depending on your audience (mostly other notaries or general community), you'll want to arrange some sort of Main Feature - like a discussion on best notary practices, ID theft prevention or cyber security. You can find lots of free stuff on the ftc web site.
Another suggestion is to show a video to the public about Cyber Safety or ID Protection (I have one posted on my web site). Staysafeonline.org has a great team of professionals that will help you with materials.
Plan the venue carefully and get the word out as soon as possible (you could attract attention from a potential co-sponsoring bank, tc or insurance co.). Ask your insurance agent for a box of pens (they're always eager for their names to get out) you could offer. Do a drawing for free gift; give out bottled water with your notary label
These are just a few suggestions. If you have the energy to plan such a feat, don't go it alone. Ask fellow state notaries to help out. Write a press release to spotlight your efforts. Go, make it happen!
*If you decide to use promo items/gifts, beware of using ASN's notary public day logo; it was especially created for one of their state notary assn's

Clarification
You're right, I wasn't very clear in my original request. Sorry about that.
I'm looking for articles, news stories, reports, or personal accounts/experiences of National Notary Public Day. I have found four different mentions so far (ASN, Maryland, PA, and one more.) That's it.
It would be great if I could get more information on the origins of the event, and more accounts of it being celebrated around the US.
Those of you posted with other suggestions, thank you. We already have a venue, and sent out invitations to community leaders.
Thanks for the ideas for giveaways and the ID training. I'll go to the two websites that were listed.
