Now here's a job possibility, policing FL notaries

There's only one person handling complaints about notary errors in all of Florida, where there are more than 400,000 notaries.

Cheryl, did you read those comments at the bottom? Real horror story.

My father's stepchildren did a similar dead, when he fell ill, they ran to his side, emptied his checking accounts and cashed in all his CD's and were in the process of selling his house, when I heard about it. I couldn't retrieve the cash without spending $10s of thousands of dollars.

But we still have Dad's house. It's amazing what some people will stoop to, but I look at this money, it's only money and I am pretty sure they've spent it all in ways that are meaningless. It wasn't mine to begin with, but it would have gone a long way to reduce my mortgage.

Just how life goes sometime.

And yes, Jules, we have events very similar to this occurring in CA all the time, so FL wasn't being singled out. Where there is madness there is method, unfortunately.

I take a wait and see attitude on this case.

What I learned when I investigated this report is that the complaint about the notary was handled within a couple of weeks once filed. The notary responded right away. There was no lag on handling the complaint. The notary's commission has been suspended, not revoked.

Also, while the two caretakers were arrested and will stand trial (or plea), the notary has not been arrested (or had not been in Sept.). She has not been charged at all.

The man/caretaker was charged with stealing identity documents (or something similar). I am not convinced that they did not pull the wool over the notary's eyes with fake IDs.

There is smoke, but not sure about the fire. The way this is told in the news report, there should be an arrest for the notary. Since there is not, I am waiting to see what happens. I think there is more than meets the eye.

Her commission is now showing as RES (Restored? Resigned?)

How many handle complaints in CA? TX? IL? Let's get perspective here, not just headlines.
