People are flocking there like there's a gold rush (already one week wait period). It's just sad to me how people panic. I wonder what's going to happen when that form comes out, that you must sign saying you will NOT ask for more the $75

This is so disgusting! ;-( IMO it accomplishes just what NNA

has been after--to control the industry with their agenda. It's too bad that these cos. don't see through their transparent motives.
I'm all for standards for the industry--just not from them. I don't want to be forced to join that organization. I know many will--what real choice are we given in this matter?

I agree with that. It's no different than giving the feds control to decide what choices we should be allowed to have...which aren't many anymore.

Exactly--I think they're following that exact example. As a

Notary I am required to comply with the notary laws of my state. IMO I cannot be required to join that organization, which is in a different state entirely.

I think all of this is probably a good idea. I mean, we all try to maintain and argue that we are professionals and can be trusted. Whats wrong with having an opportunity to prove it? However, the same people that are requesting this hoop jumping are the ones that are paying us as if we are not important in the process. So I say, fine. We can do all those things and provide all the necessary documentation but we should be paid accordingly. It's also a possibility that all these hoops to jump through could weed out the people that are in it to make a quick buck with no retribution for errors that they don't even realize they are making because they are so unfamiliar with what they are doing.

That would all be great if this organization really had all

that in mind. They're the very ones that pumped a lot of inexperienced notaries into this biz in the first place.
I had their cert/bgc years ago. I don't have a problem with what is voluntary, but I'm not going for this MANDATORY requirement to be a member of that organization.

OMG, this ripoff report is a great idea. I had no idea there were so many anti NNA people here. I always thought I was the minority by not joining. So glad to be reading all this. What about the BBB? Aren't they members of that? Can we complain there also? I know there complaints are handled differently so that may not apply.

I've been told that "Fidelity" will also accept Sterling background checks. And, even though I just spent my money with another company less than two months ago, I feel forced to now spend $55 - but I'll go with Sterling, not NNA!

Other vendors for the Certified Signing Specialist

designation are mentioned in this article and another link re:transition on the same page. Who will they be? If we set tight and wait for a few months will there be other companies offering the training/certification?

The NNA created this flux of signing agents

by marketing in the "work from home" genre. Now the market is flooded with folks who managed to sit through a $50 - 6 hour notary class expecting to make $100k. Companies believing what the NNA promised ("Certified" means highly experienced and professional and CHEAP) have now come to realize that ain't the case. So guess who is now going to make even more money to clean up this mess? The NNA. Brilliant marketing.

NNA is NOT a government entity!

We answer to the Secretary of State, not the "National" Notary Association. They are no more a government entity than FEDERAL Express.

All NNA does is dream up more ways that they can dip into our pockets, and then whisper tales off doom and horror to title companies, lenders and Signing Services until we are forced to comply and give them our money, and for what? The NNA brownie points of THEIR background checks and THEIR "certification".

And of course, they do this when we are all hurting for work and have no money to spend. What are they going do dream up next? No notarizations allowed without us wearing their special badges and their special hats? Hmmm. that would required they manufacture something which would cut into their greedy profit margin. Best to stick with pieces of paper that they can print up easily. Maybe their next scheme will be different "levels" of certification, and we can only charge according to if we are "platinum", "gold" or silver".

Re: Other vendors for the Certified Signing Specialist

People read the small print, FNF is going to:

"Besides the background check, we MUST have a signed copy of the attached "authorization and release". This document authorizes US to confidentially release the background check to a lender as permitted by the audit provision of their service agreement."

NOTICE, AUTHORIZATION AND RELEASE REGARDING EXISTING CERTIFICATES AND/OR INVESTIGATIVE CONSUMER REPORTS
________________________________________________________________________

I have provided or will provide to Fidelity National Financial, Inc. and/or its family of title companies (collectively referred to as FNF) a copy of my Background Screening Certificate from the GLBA-Compliant National Notary Association ("NNA") or other approved vendor.

I HEREBY AUTHORIZE FNF to release, disclose and/or provide a copy of any and all certificates, forms, questionnaires, investigative reports, background checks, evaluations, analysis or any other information that I have provided or caused to be provided to FNF, or which FNF has prepared, to any customer, client, lender or other financial institution for whom FNF provides services, so as to evidence that I meet the requirements, qualifications and standards imposed by such customer, client, lender or financial institution on persons who receive or have access to consumer financial information or other confidential information.

I hereby agree and understand that this Notice, Authorization and Release will remain valid as long as I provide any services for or to FNF and throughout my affiliation with FNF. The matters and information which are covered by this Notice, Authorization and Release include, but are not limited to, information concerning my criminal history, motor vehicle history, social security number, character, or any other information requested by any customer, client, lender or other financial institution. As used herein FNF means FNF and any other division of the Fidelity National Financial, Inc. family of title insurers, including any related companies, subsidiaries and/or affiliates thereof.
I hereby release FNF, to the full extent permitted by law, from any liability or claims arising from releasing, disclosing, providing and/or reporting information concerning me to any party pursuant to this Notice, Authorization and Release.
I agree that a copy or fax of this document shall be as valid as the original. Signature

I would cross out 'social security number' and in the last paragraph change 'hereby release' to 'do not release'..... Think they would notice?

Gayle, I emailed FNF in regards to this

as well as my "horror" as to granting them the ability to distribute my personal and private information "to any and all." Quite frankly, had FNFs requirement been to submit to a BGC through either XYZ (NEVER,EVER [yes, I'm screaming]) or Sterling and receiving their/it's Certificate, I would have been more than pleased to comply. However; under the current terms, I will not.

FNF responded to me that my complaint, as well as many others, was being forwarded to its' Compliance Department for review. Given the fact that FNF executives think (between my Loan Origination days and my NSA years, I know this corporation Extermely Well) with a part of their body that I Do Not, I doubt (seriously) any thing will change. Sigh... just seems to be the "Corporate World."

As Bobbi/CT said the other day: Busy work to justify jobs.

Why be laid off when things are slow when you can devise something to keep yourself busy and show you are essential?
