While your back was turned ...
... XYZ supplanted your state government in matters notary public. From the profile of a notary public in my area:
"Above all, we are bound by the Notary Public Code of Professional Responsibility. This ensures that all notary services performed conform to the standards of the National Notary Association ..."
I will leave unremarked what those standards are, and how they might comport with relevant state laws; that topic has been amply discussed here on many occasions.

Sad, isn't it. Longer this goes on, easier it gets for XYZ
to infiltrate states. Particularly the lawmakers of same--most of whom haven't a clue what it is that notaries do. OK, that's unfair. Let's say it doesn't make their top ten list of 'things to know about before voting'.

Re: Yikes! The conference was in Austin, TX a couple of mos.
I was not suggesting that the great state of TX said this....just some misinformed (probably by that conference) notary who BELIEVES. But as the 'belief' goes on, it gets harder to keep said organization the heck out of state law.

I posted in response to Hugh, and not necessarily because
of what you posted.
