You also might try reconfiguring the setting from auto to manual or vice versa

I'm sure you already tried shut off printer, re-booting the computer, turn printer back on. Verify "preferences" are set to letter, then un-check the "select pg size by source", check "shrink to fit" or "fit". There's also the settings on the machine screen for your trays. You can have a brother person walk you through that. good luck!

My Brother HL-5470 DW started doing the same thing (only in my case it was printing all letter size). I called the Brother Customer Service number and the man walked me through fixing it. The Customer Service person couldn't fix it either and told me the printer needed to be returned under warranty. They sent me a new "refurbished" printer. Call customer support. If you need their number, PM me and I'll give it to you.

Different model, same problem solution

I used my favorite "System Restore".
I don't know how or why the settings were changed (Brother couldn't help in this instance), but restoring it to the last time I used it successfully fixed the problem.
