Anyone a justice of the peace

Are any forum member a justice of the peace? Any pluses or minuses with respect to notary work? (In my state it's an elective office; I get the feeling there isn't a long line of people in my town clamoring for the office. I am aware it would involve some volunteer duties such as sitting on tax appeals and helping with elections.)

I am strongly pursuing the same thing. In my local district the incumbent is capped out by age limitations. I can't speak to where your location is, but in Louisiana it would be very beneficial. I've obtained a copy of the JP Handbook for my state and have been reading and absorbing like a sponge. Let me know if you want to peruse it as it is readily available online. Very good read the third time through Smile

Not a JP but would like to be, even if it didn't help my...

...NSA business. I sit in on my local county's Quorum Court meetings. I enjoy helping people. The monthly stipend isn't much. But, true public servants aren't in it for the money. It's a great way to get to know your local neighbors. The hard choices that JP's have to sometimes make aren't without personal cost and sacrifice. Yet, they do it, anyway. I respect that. I'll bet it's even fun. JMHO
