Deposition

Has anyone done a swearing in witness for a deposition? I have a two day deposition for 4 hrs. each day. I also need to drive to the location. I am wondering if anyone has done this type of signing? I am having a problem making a price for this job. I would like to know if anyone has done a deposition what price were you comfortable with? please respond.
I am in the State of Florida.
Thank you..

Something sounds 'off'. 4 hours? for 2 days? Just to swear someone in...which takes no more than 2 minutes? (not including travel) You're sure they don't want something more? Like they think you're recording this or transcribing it---or something. Obviously, I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I guess an hourly rate & guesstimated expenses (parking? tolls?) would work. And I wouldn't be cheap about it.

I have done two video depositions here in Ca, but not as a notary. The swearing in part only takes about two minutes (as previously mentioned). Are you going to attach a jurat to some Docs? Not enough info IMO to assist.

Four hours would make sense if there were a series of witnesses to be sworn in, and they wouldn't all be there until it was their turn to testify. Is that the setup?

I've done many of these (many involving auto accidents and dog bites), but most of them over the telephone with a conference call. I swear the person in and then I'm finished. The affiant signs the form provided by the Attorney, I fill in the Jurat, notarize and send it to the Attorney and I get $50.00. I have never been asked to stay for the deposition, I would charge a $40.00 per hour wait charge in addition if I had to wait for the deposition to conclude.

You didn't say, but are you swearing in more than one person?

Identify the witness(es), give the oath to each witness. Normally, you will provide your Commission data and have it ready to fax/email to confirm it.

Depending upon the docket you might need to spend time waiting and I include that identified as a possibility in my quotes.

Remember to courteously ask the Judge before giving the oath if it is amenable to leave the hearing/deposition [whether in person or over the phone] after the oath. This enables them to gather all that they need from me and recognize that I will not be present throughout.

Agree with the stated hourly rate above. Remember to charge the oath administration fee and a 'travel' fee even if over the phone as you will have the lead time contacting them and waiting. I usually count on 40-45 minutes in general. After that amount of time elapses, the clock starts ticking at the hourly rate.

Good Luck! Big Smile

Agree with DTF - am also curious why you have to

stay for 4 hours for 2 days...if it's multiple deponents, then

Travel Fee
$10/oath administered/cert completed
Hourly rate to sit and cool your heels

I thought Court Reporters were notaries and were able to swear people in.

Re: Also want to add here...Charlene....

Thanks Linda,
I don't have too much info from the email that I received. She was also not sure of how many witnesses at this time. She just had date and time and location. I will reach out on Monday to her office.
Thank you
