Did You Know

A TC/SS that has called me in the past now sends a broadcast email offering a signing for $20 less to the first person that responds. There are several others also on that bandwagon.
What is your experience with this new wave of business? Is this the new norm?

I also receive some of these emails. Some I do answer with my fee and some I just delete.

From some of the postings here lately, other SS's are also doing this. As to whether it's the new norm, that depends on if we play into it. As with anything, if there's no/low participation, eventually that attempt is discarded.

C'mon folks, if those blast email offerings don't suit your business plan, ignore 'em. Or, if you must respond, let 'em know to take you off their mailing list. When they have 1 or 2 (low-pay) notaries in your area and those notaries go out of business due to losing money, then those hiring entities will start calling on you again ... and meet your fees! Of course, that's assuming they haven't gone out of business themselves ....... Wink

I consider what you said as a person "boycott" of dealing with a TC/SS that hires IC this way. I would rather stay home and read a book or listen to nice music than be stressed on for too low a fee.

Future of things to come in this business

It is up to each person how they want to handle this. Just to many notaries, slow down in business big companies you're just a number. If this was 10-12 years ago this would never fly because there were not as many of us and times were better. Its like we are in a big pit and someone threw a piece of meat in, king of the pack gets the meat.

What you can hope is that smaller companies get work to keep you busy, but even the smaller TC will get squeezed with the tech now and they will be in the same pit as us in the future.

Gotta disagree that the 'king' gets the biz

More likely the newb with no business who is sitting at home on Facebook with their phone right next to them and nothing better to do.

Gotta agree with Lee.

All the TC's and SS's care about is getting the job done, it's usually first to answer.

I ignore them. I hope not. I'm not always in my office, so I don't respond to text, and I still have an old phone that I haven’t set up to receive e-mail and I don't plan to (I get far too much junk mail now.) JMO

Re: I hate to say it but I think we will

see a lot more of these blast emails as it is cheaper for the SS/TCs and there are always somebody who will scramble over any scrap. When the other SS/TCs see it working for one of their number they will jump on the band wagon to save money. I already have SSs that hardly ever call me anymore because I refused to follow their downward floating fees. When I get a call from them now I know it's way out in the boonies or too late on a Fri/Sat when all the youngsters have other things on their minds.

Re: I hate to say it but I think we will

I too am now getting fewer calls; but maybe because the refi business, in my opinion, has dropped by approximately 75 % in the last two months? And I do agree that there are those that will try, do, and take anything to save, or make, a buck…. But I also think that the schedulers play an important role in getting the job done correctly. You send out mass mailings, for the cheapest you can find, and you will get a quality of service that is directly proportional. How many of you would choose your surgeons that way?

I do not reply to them. To others I reply that I am already booked.
