Does anyone know what SLink considers extra "distance"?

By that I mean, what do they consider within immediate service area vs. what exactly qualifies to request add'l $$ for "distance"? Or, is there a "standard" distance. I realize we all set our fees, service areas, etc. I ask for & get "distance" fee added sometimes, but does anyone know SLink's mileage guidelines for schedulers?

There comes a point that extra distance is only a block away from what is decided to be "further and extra". I don't care what anyone says - when I decide it is extra and out of my area, that is what it is....even if only a block or across the street.

Looking at this subject line the answer now changes: one more stair.

"One more stair" Cute Jules, I'm grinning with that BFTP

I don't know the answer, other than that sometimes they've agreed to an extra fee for distance at my requirement, and sometimes they haven't.

When I give ServiceLink (or any company) a quote for MY fee, I base it on MY criteria. MY base fee parameters are a 15-mile radius from my home and up to 130-page doc package. Any variation (additional service) incurs an additional fee.

Same here, I literally tell the assigning agent, I am not interested in hearing what you pay nor how much you make. I am incurring all the cost and some risk, it is my gas and supplies and time. I set my own fees. I once received a call from 6 different signing companies because I apparently was the only Notary in the area and they did not want to pay my fee. Eventually I got the signing and they paid my fee! I have had them tell me I am outrageous. I just tell them $50 does not cover my expenses and time and leave me a profit! I have learned when I deal directly with the title or mortgage company I get more that are willing to pay my fee than when I deal with Signing companies!

Another thing to consider is that "distance" can change. What if, for instance, I'm going to be in an area 70 miles from home. As often is the case, I'm wanted to go a place 40 miles the other direction... so, accommodating that request is not a 40 mile proposition... it's 110 miles and will likely require some significant schedule adjustments.

Most of us are one-person shops. We aren't dispatching people from a single location. Trying to calculate distance is not up to them...but us. It's also a time issue

I make the decision on mileage guidelines..not

schedulers...

My fees are based on home county and outside home county. I don't want to have to pull out my abacus every time someone calls for a job - my base fee is for in home county or outside home county, 2 copies of a standard 125-130 page package, no faxbacks.

I gave my fees to ServiceLink - if they can meet it they call me..

It's that simple. I don't let any company tell me how far I'm going and how much I'm going to get - that's for me to tell them.

I guess what I'm saying is don't worry what THEY

consider additional miles - YOU make that decision. They either agree to it and use you or they don't.

they pay my listed fees, but some counties are HUGE & I've

listed by county (to keep it simple). So far, I am way ahead on fees w//them & very happy.

Same thing around here...small counties vs.

HUGE area - in the huge areas I limit my zip codes to those closest to me - still driving 45-50 miles one way plus package drop. I don't usually service the outer zip codes of those counties...just waaay too far.

Re: I make the decision on mileage guidelines..not

I base my fee by a radius of my office. Some counties are long and narrow. It might be 2 miles to the next county, however, 60 miles to the other side of it. I charge $XXX+ for up to 20 miles away. It goes up $25 for each additional 20 miles. Companies have the right to go on to the next notary if they don't want to pay my fee. I also charge extra for more than 130 pages and faxbacks. I know my cost to do business. I know too many ss that are charging the title companies $250-350 for our services, but only want to pay us $60.
