I keep getting messages from well-meaning souls ...

... that they have endorsed me on Linked-In. I gather I must have signed up for LI several years ago, but I have never taken the time to learn how to return the favor, or to determine what Linked-In is all about, so I guess I probably have offended some folks who took the time to do me what they thought was a favor.

Has any signing agent on this board ever gotten <any> business at all from Linked-In? If so, how did it happen?

No business that I am aware of, good list of contacts of people I have contact with over the years.

I signed up in the free account years ago. Just like Facebook, I mostly ignore it.

I don't like being all over the internet. Call me crazy. : )

There are some really good notary groups on LinkedIn. I have found that there are a lot of notaries checking in there that don't on here. Have gotten a lot of good information from both sites.

I'm mostly puzzled/annoyed by requests to "connect" by people (incl. SS) I don't know or have never done business with; I think that is because we may share the same Groups.

Many of the groups have high memberships, so that's a lot of connections! Unfortunately, we're in the same biz, so not sure how much (or who's) business it promotes.

I wouldn't be concerned about offending folks doing the endorsing; they're not likely giving it another thought. Personally, my endorsements only go to those I've worked with and whose business acumen is 1st rate; but most on the site realize it's mainly about promoting who you Know.

I just learned a SEO tip for LI: Since Google indexes LinkedIn profiles - a custom URL might help in the searches. I never paid any real attention to the url listed.

At the top page of Your Profile, go to “Edit Profile” and click on “Edit” next to your CURRENT URL, then click on “Customize your public profile URL” in the “Your public profile URL” section

Robert and Michelle, thanks for the good information.

I am in several groups with Linked-In, and oftentimes glean some interesting data. For instance on one of the business owner groups, there is a discussion right now about the value of education compared to experience. With over 200 comments, it's an eye-opening thread.

And, as Robert said, many notaries who are not familiar with NR voice opinions on LI, some similar and some kinda "off the wall". I usually put in my two cents about NR being a font of knowledge, so hopefully newbies there will begin to check this board out and learn.

Business, no...

but I'm not listed as a notary on LI.

There are LO sites on LI that I have engaged in quite heavily. At times people will either "follow" you as a means of tracking your comments if they feel you have something meaningful to offer, and perhaps endorse you.

I have received endorsements from colleagues, friends and business associates. Some wish reciprocation, some don't need reciprocation, some may endorse you then ask you to join their board so as to solicit you for their products and services. If you haven't been on for a while, it may most likely be for the latter.

I look to LI for much more powerful discussions on industry rules and regulations as they happen. Officials from most major agencies are there too.

NR? I respect the tenure of many here, enjoy most personalities including yours, and daily updating my notary knowledge. I used to read NR about every 6 months and would spend hours discovering what others are thinking, doing, saying.

I sort of view NR as a "Linkedin Light". Smile

I get those too & just delete them. I don't have the time

or inclination to get involved with LI. It's just another FB type site, IMO.

I don't mind endorsing people I know..

what I don't like is this feature they have where people can blast e-mail requesting you visit their profile and write a professional recommendation for them. I've received 2 of those requests from people I've never heard of and have responded to both the same way - how can I possibly do this when I don't even know you.
