Need new laser all-in-one

I can get the Brother MFC-87100W at Staples for $299.99, a savings of $100. The printer only has one tray though, and another cannot be added.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a high volume dual tray all-in-one?

I used the orange search button and didn't find anything.

Re: New laser all-in-one

I've been a Brother fan ever since I started this business. My current one is an MFC-8690DW, refurbed. Has the capability of a second tray. I am quite pleased with its perfomance compared to my older MFC

Brother MFC-8690DW

I looked on Amazon, found one for $$419.04, but one of the review comments said that it is difficult to set up the scan feature. I don't have a tech bone in my body and very simple set up.

I run 2 old Brother MFC-8460 N and love them. My toners are high yield 7,500 pages and get them off Amazon for about $12.00 each and drums about $19.00 which I change out about once a year.
They are 2nd tray compatible, but I never went that route. I print all legal, and the buyer's copies all letter sized, and never had a problem.
Just remember what ever you chose to purchase to do your homework and see how much the toners will cost you. sometimes better to pay a little extra on the machine to get a better price on the toners for it.

A printing tip for you Luckydog & Others

You can still print letter and legal on the MFC-8460N (and all Brother MFCs)
without the additional tray.
Use the regular tray for legal, and use your multipurpose tray for letter (or vice versa).
You won't believe the savings by not using all legal.

Re: A printing tip for you Luckydog & Others

Will it work as does a dual tray printer, where it can pull a mix of letter and legal, depending on the size of the document?

Yes Lynn, but...

If you have more pages than the mf tray can handle, then you'll have to stand by to replace as needed. I think it hold 35 pp. When I use the mf tray, it has to be set up for the size of paper I use from this tray.

This one DOES use a second tray.

I did the same but now need to replace kit for feeder tray

I think the machine isn't really meant to print a lot of docs from that tray so it has a shorter life than other parts! My doc pkgs usually have more letter than legal so running legal from the feeder tray would make it last longer.

Re: I did the same but now need to replace kit for feeder tray

I don't recommend this as a long term solution (using multifunction tray as a regular 2nd tray) it was only meant for ocasional use, letterhead, etc. It is a pain to monitor 25 to 50 sheets in Multifuction tray. I tried it on a MFG 8680, and quickly bought a 2nd (lower) tray. Your life will be so much easier!!

Lynn,
i own the Brother MFC-8710DW and added a second tray. You information about adding a second tray is incorrect. Staples does not sell the second tray but you can purchase it through Amazon or another source is B&H photo. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=893941&is=REG&Q=&A=details

I purchased mine through Amazon because I already have an account there and it was easy. I just checked amazon it looks like they are out of stock. click the link abouve for the part number.

Installing the tray was super easy. Brother tech support folks is great and will help you correctly set up settings/software so you can print your Docs legal/letter with ease.

I got a Brother dual printer, but my All In One, I got HP Officejet 6700 premium. This one copies, scans, faxes. I spent about $100. for it and it is wireless,--so is the dual tray - wireless.

The dual printer is heavy and I can't imagine it being an all in one too.

My dual printer is black and white laser, my all in one is colored and inkjet.

This works for me and I think I did a good job to get these 2.

Just letting you know what I did and so far, it works - my all in one is fast, it can send faxes quite quickly.

Re: Buy what ever and add Page Separator.

I wanted a dual tray with MFC but all were very expensive. So I bought a Brother MFC 7460 from Costco (under $300) and immediately added Page Separator. Never looked back after hundreds of loans later. If you find a dual tray MFC at a good price let me know, I might buy it and put it away until this one dies.

Re: Lynn: Have you looked into Brother MFC-8890DWT?

I am also looking at that printer - I can get it on Amazon for $633.99 with free shipping.

I can buy the Brother MFC-8710DW at Staples for $299.99 (a savings of $100) and they will give me $50 for my old MFP. I can order the 2nd tray online for $146.99, for a total cost of $400.

I would rather have the 8890, but with the drastic slowdown in business, I think I should save the $234.

Compare Brother MFC-8890DWT & Brother MFC8710DW

Brother MFC-8890DWT prints up to 42 ppm- Cost $633.99

Brother MFC8710DW prints up to 40 ppm - Cost $400

Both have a legal glass size

I don't know what the plusses would be for the 8890 with an additional cost of $234.

I think that's a no-brainer. I'd go with the best deal, &

am really weighing any additional investments in equipment, etc. at this time in the biz.
